Re: Possible Oil leak?

Thanks Scottydog & Escape,

This makes more sense. If he underfilled it and went by the book, then it would probably be 3-4 quarts low....

I was starting to get paranoid!

I finally figured out the shop manual doesn't take into account the tranny cooler. The manual states 6.2 qts for the 545RFE. I put 7 qts in, and it still slipped. The dipstick was so difficult to read I didn't want to believe I needed more. Ultimately took almost 9.

Did the work invoice list how many qts of ATF they used? One would think the dealer would be used to the car, as most of the WKs came with the tow packages.

Re: Possible Oil leak?

Ya, he put down that he added 5...

I guess step number 3 is the big caveat on this one...

-Brent

1. Remove dipstick (if equipped) and insert clean funnel in transmission fill tube.
2. Add following initial quantity of MoparŪ ATF +4 to transmission:
a. If only fluid and filter were changed, add 10 pints (5 quarts) of ATF +4 to transmission.
b. If transmission was completely overhauled and the torque converter was replaced or drained, add 24 pints (12 quarts) of ATF +4 to transmission.
3. Check the transmission fluid (Refer to 21 - TRANSMISSION/AUTOMATIC - RFE/FLUID - STANDARD PROCEDURE) and adjust as required.
