took my mechanic an hour to figure out how to take it out... made me all worried

Re: Power Steering problems...

*UPDATE

I did some reading around on a couple other Jeep forums and someone brought up low tire pressure with oversized tires. And now that I'm thinking about it... my tire pressure indicator is on. Could this possibly be the cause?

Re: Power Steering problems...

could be....I would say flat tires are harder to turn...especially those big tires you have

Re: Power Steering problems...

Well, they're FAR from flat. Maybe a couple psi under.

Re: Power Steering problems...

for the hemi guys, power steering fluid also drives the radiator fan. or one of them at least, if there are more than one. so with that extra drain on the system probably a good idea to change that fluid at 30K intervals and maybe prolong the life of the PS pump.........

Re: Power Steering problems...

my jeep is also making the same noise, and also appears to be intermittant. i was parking it earlier no sound, but when i was driving it up to my car park, multiple up ramps, it started to make the sound.

its a 2006 3.0crd has 28800 miles or so, and i got it at 27800, fully serviced etc. Any ideas? i am hazarding a guess at the pump as well.

Not impressed if it is, as i only got the car in october, and have hardly driven it.

Re: Power Steering problems...

i bought my jeep december of 08 and january 09 my power steering pump went out so i took it right to the dealership and made them replace it. it had 87,000 miles on it then.. so based on how many jeep owners are having this problem its gotta be what's wrong with it lol..

Re: Power Steering problems...

I am on my 4th rack and pinion and going on my fifth, have to check my pump and see how that's holding up.

Re: Power Steering problems...

I've got a little whining noise that's only audible at slow speeds when parking or turning, I'm gonna try flushing my PS fluid when the temps warm up since it isn't really that big of a problem right now. Only 40k miles so I'm hoping it's not the pump.

I think you will find that it also happens in regular driving, but you cant hear it either because,
1: tyre noise
2: ambient \ radio noise
3: highly unlikely that your going to do any evasive or bizarre moves at anything above 10 mph.
Taking my Jeep in for a check on Thursday, as it is covered by the extended warranty (I hope so).
