After seeing that, that motor has been hydrolocked. Only way to bend rods like that is from trying to compress water

Re: Project "Rock Bottom" rebuild

So did the full break down on the bottom end....and I finally figured out what locked up the engine..
It's a piece of metal from the piston rods and it got wedged between the weight on the crankshaft and the block itself...

Here's the two broken rods

You can see the bent rod in this pic

The crank looks good, and all the bearing surfaces look great so I think I'm in good shape.

The cylinders all look good other than the muck and surface rust that collected in the top of the cylinders..

So I think I'm good on rebuilding this one, I'm looking into some shops here in town that can do the machine work for me here in Owensboro. I'm hoping to be able to take the block, crank, and heads to a shop next week and get them refreshed and ready for the rebuild..I'll also hopefully start ordering all the parts, lift kit etc next week as well...

What tire pressure sensors do I need to buy for my wk? How do I know which ones I need?

Someone tell me what muffler to order....I'm so undecided, so I'm leaving this decision in your hands...yes I'm putting headers on the engine...so pick me out something that flows well...

Id likely have that block honed just to clean up the bores.

As for a muffler....

Magnaflow, slp, corsa, some borla mufflers.

Id avoid flowmaster like the plague as the drone really bad

Re: Project "Rock Bottom" rebuild

Yeah was going to get the cylinders honed, no reason to have them bored no scratches etc...

Ok I'll look into those suggestions on mufflers

Re: Project "Rock Bottom" rebuild

So I've decided on tire size, going 285 70 17, looking at a set of Mastercraft courser mxt tires...I have a buddy that has an excursion on these and he likes the tires...also looking at a couple other brands but I'm set on the size.

Also going to go with the Gibson 17404 cat back exahust...

Plan is to order the lift, tires, brakes, and anything else I can order and put on the jeep itself, while the engine is in the machine shop, then once I get the engine back I'll start ordering engine parts, this will cause me to take my time, because sometimes I get in a rush and I want to make sure I get the engine back together right the first time.
