so here is the story;

Monday, feb 23rd. the jeep goes into limp mode. goes into limp on each subsequent restart. i start checking the UG for anything. both front o2 voltages show no read and PCM is not reporting short term fuel trims. Im like cool, my o2's both decided to quit. so after limping it to 3 different parts stores, i finally found NTK o2 sensors. got 2 for 94$ and some change. swapped em in 5 mins after limping it to the DIY shop on post and putting it on a lift.

Check the UG and im getting readings now, im like cool problem solved. i run to a shoppette and grab a drink, get back to the barrack to enjoy whats left of my lunch break. Jeep drops to limp again, im like WTF?!?!

Threw the ECT and TCS lights each time BTW, so know im thinking that my sprint booster just crapped out or shorted out my ECT module. So i yanked it, did a hard reset. Drove fine the rest of the night.

Tuesday, feb 24th...
well i sorta had my hopes up that maybe the booster went bad, it hadnt acted up on me the rest of the previous day after pulling it and doing the reset. so i ran on over to the shoppette for some morning chow, get back to the barracks to enjoy it. sitting in the jeep just jamming out to some avenged sevenfold. jeeps still not fully warmed up yet, take maybe 15 mins to reach 195*. the whole time im watching the UG, temps, o2 volts, fuel trims and such. 5 mins after hitting 195, jeep goes limp on me. Im seroiusly getting ticked at this point. i hook up the hypertec and pulled codes (UG shows codes too, but not dealer only ones. Hypertec can) I get the same 2 for the cats, an P0219 which is an engine overspeed code, a P0507, idle speed higher then expected and 2 for the PCM internal failure and 3 for the FCM failure.

im thinking worse case here, 5 codes for PCM and FCM failures. great, how expensive is this gonna be?

outta time, gotta go to get my briefings done. So im sitting there kinda paying attention to whats going on, but my mind is racing. im thinking of every possible cause. every code but the 5 can be explained easily. so i start thinking about the lights that come on when it goes limp, TCS came on too. possibly ABS/ wheel speed sensor related? it would make sense right? but this time i think back to when the issue came up and every time it did it afterwards. there was 2 commonalities. One, it was always up to full temp when it went limp, never on a cold start or until it hit 195*. and 2, the oil change required msg on the dash. but of course i didnt think anything of it.

So during the lunch break, i wiped the codes, hoping it was just caused by a code that was set. no luck, still went limp. I sent justin and josh a txt asking about it. josh said to try and reset the oil light. justin never heard of this happening, jeep going limp with the oil change reminder on for 1500 miles (more on that in a bit)....

So when i got off work, and on a hunch+ some friendly advice, i reset the oil reminder. drove for 35 mins. no hiccups. alright, dont wanna jinx it. took it for a hr long drive. mixed city driving and highway plus blasts to 1xx. NO LIMP MODE. i topped the fuel tank off with some 93 oct from shell and parked it for the night.

Wednesday feb 25th,
no issues to report, all seems well...

SO GUYS, IF YOU OWN A 2008 and NEWER JEEP, DO NOT GO 1500 MILES WITH THE OIL REMINDER ON, IT WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE!

Alright, i know you guys are asking me why the heck i went that long to reset or change the oil. Am i right?

Okay, heres why. The reminder first chimed on just shy of 69k miles. a day or two before i made the drive down to fort campbell. That accounts for 800 miles. the rest of the miles came from showing some people new to campbell the area and where to stay away from as well as to do in processing. so before you go nailing me to a cross for negligence, i already have the oil and filter, just waiting to leave replacement and get to my unit before i did it. i already have full intentions of doing the oil change. Keep in mind i am usually religious about it and nail it every 3k so an extra 1500 isnt gonna hurt it. ( probably 45xx on the oil). i just wasnt expecting my truck to go limp from it being on!

Thanks for the information on the reset. Sometimes mine goes off before I get to my 3500-4000 mile change interval. I always reset within a couple days.

No problem. Just wish this info was readily available instead of me having to find out the hard way. If I had known about the limp mode for it being on I would have reset sooner

Yea the only reason I reset mine because it annoyed me when I started the jeep. Hope everything is good now.

Re: Project "Six Shooter" Build Thread

well i am at the unit...and the smallest barracks on post. literally there is only room for a bed and i dont think i could turn it sideways lol. i dont know what to do with the 375 pounds of stuff thats still in shipment to campbell, thats how small this place is....

any way, i am in J Co., 426th FSC. but the news gets better....this unit falls up under the 1-506th infantry regiment. Why is this important? well im now part of one of the most decorated units ever. I'll drop a clue if it sounds unfamilar

Ready?

Well these are also older rooms too. They're actually renovating the buildings next to mine. And supposedly we are moving to those when they are done

Well a bit of troubling news, jeep went into limp again today. Pulled codes using the key dance to get them from the evic. P2101, P2110 & P2118. All three are ECT related. Pulled Sprint booster off and issue corrected itself. I think the Sprint booster went bad. After pulling it drove to the bestbuy and back. No issues.

I pulled the Sprint booster indefinitely after 2 months of use and will continue to monitor the jeeps condition....

Re: Project "Six Shooter" Build Thread

Jeff did you mount the switch for the sprint booster under the dash. That way you don't have to keep taking it out to troubleshoot. Does your programmer have anything on it that enhances throttle response that could be conflicting with it. I have had mine on for 5 months no issues. Just a thought

Yes I kept it in easy reach. Even with it turned off it still did it. I know the truck don't go limp with the booster removed completely. The Hypertec doesn't enhance throttle response.
