Re: Purchase price - Too much?

13.5 sounds much better if you can get them to fix anything you noticed wrong with it.. even the clunk ( proof they fixed it too ) , asking 11.5 as ^^^ mentioned, would be obviously ideal.. but i think you may be getting a bit of a better deal. If they havn't instpected it yet, that means it wasn't cleaned, have them do their stealership 16 point inspection, then listen for the clunk again and.. carfaxxxxxxx

Re: Purchase price - Too much?

I got it..
13.5 out the door.
They said it's when you're in reverse and go into neutral, the driveshaft changes positions.
I call bull shit.. Not that much anyway. I'm going to have my mechanic take a look (I live an hour away) and have them fix whatever it is. 3 month powertrain warranty.

I got the car fax.. but it didn't tell me much.

Re: Purchase price - Too much?

Does anybody have a part number for that bushing? I'm not seeing anything through my work, just bearings.

Re: Purchase price - Too much?

OK, I've found a part number, but it's MOPAR. Is it only a "through the dealer" item or is there another brand out there that makes them?

Re: Purchase price - Too much?

so they are not gonna fix it before you take possession ? the only time it should clunk ( and even a small one ) is IF, you are on a slight incline, and going from park to any gear ( not just neutral ) , If they didn't fix it shame on them. As far as I know, mopar is your only bet. but.. i could be wrong, i'll let someone else chime in

Re: Purchase price - Too much?

You might as well replace all three (yes, there are three of them!).

Usually it is the top one that goes first, but, that's also the hardest one to get to.

See this link for more info:
Differential pinion mount/bushing replacement

I know Just for Jeeps had them at one time, could be cheaper than ordering from your dealer.

Thats bullshit, i really hope you havent taken possestion of the vehicle, if it makes a clunking noise, what if its to the point the tranny basically needs to be rebuild or replaced in a few months, i wouldn't take that vehicle, there are other jeeps out there, dont get all head over heels over that vehicle, i can guarentee you, there are 100s if not 1000s of others JUST LIKE YOURS, in better shape at that same or better price.

I can tell you my jeep doesnt make any kind of clunking noise when going from park to drive to reverse to neutral to low to the moon, it doesnt matter.

Also, i can promise you, when the time comes and you want to trade that vehicle in, you will get raped on the trade in value because of the accident thats on the carfax. No matter how minor it may have been.

If the dealership is selling vehicles that have accidents on the carfax, i'd go find a better dealership.

Re: Purchase price - Too much?

I really hope you didnt buy that jeep with a known problem and an accident on the record. Mine doesnt make any noise and i have 50k more miles than that jeep. Keep looking, you will find a great jeep somewhere.

Re: Purchase price - Too much?

Now I don't know what to do.. Keep it or say no.
I do have it in my possession, but I haven't paid anything for it yet.
I'm worried about the clunk.. It sounds like (if it's the bushings) I could do it myself.. But idk.

Re: Purchase price - Too much?

it is a pretty expensive repair to do, pass on that jeep. you would be the 3rd owner in just 7 years....... there must be a reason for that? also as others have said, with an accident on the record, you will get raped if you ever try to sell it or trade it in
