Re: PVC Catch Can

I definitely recommend one of these. On my 6.1L HEMI I get a can full of oil captured per oil change. Definitely not good over years of use.

If you use the Z-bracket on the 5.7, you have to take the engine cover off. It won't fit with catch can mounted to the head. It may also be a tight fit with the stock intake tube. I haven't tried it yet.

Re: PVC Catch Can

What about those little filters you can get at the auto store, do they work well? if you have a CAI, can you just use one of those little filters on the breather hose or is a catch can the best alternative? I don't know if the V6 would need a catch can or not, what do you think?

A V6 could use a catch can too and benefit just as much. You can get one of those little filters to put on the breather hose by the oil filler. I have one on mine. A catch can and the breather filter are 2 different things. The breather filter doesn't really do anything, the catch can stop oil vapr from getting back into your intake causing puddling of oil in the intake as well as oil vapor getting into the combustion chamber and possibly reducing power.

Re: PVC Catch Can

Installed today with 800 miles on the jeep. Got black anodized finish with braided hose and satin fittings. Mounted it to strut bar like in the picture. Kept the intake cover just cut out where the hoses go. Will post pics later

Re: PVC Catch Can

EKaz, it won't fit in the stock LX location because it does hit the intake tube. See my pix in Post 2 on where I ended up mounting mine. Easy to do and you can still keep the engine cover, without modification, if you desire.

Re: PVC Catch Can

Wow...I am confused as all hell

OK...so I saw on here a lot of guys put a filter over the PCV valve instead of the hose running from the intake nipple to the PCV. What exactly did I accomplish by doing that (other than IMO cleaning up the engine bay)? And does a catch-can have anything to do with this mod? I feel like a total tard right now as I cannot get all of these terms straight in my head. Please help HAHA

Adding a little filter makes it just a crankcase vent. When you keep the PCV plugged into the intake manifold, the air rushing through the IM helps pull air through the PCV. Some engines need this. I've heard of people using inadequately sized catch cans, which caused engine damage. I'm sure plenty of people use just a filter and are fine with it but I wouldn't risk it.

A catch can goes between the PCV and the IM and traps "blow by" (oil) that would have otherwise gunked up your IM.

Re: PVC Catch Can

So if I wanna get a catch can from Billet Tech, which bracket and other things do I need on my WK 5.7? I've been thinking about getting one lately but I didn't know who actually had one on their 5.7. I was looking at Diablosports, but they suck at not giving prices on their shit and I don't feel like having to go to one of their approved shops to find out I'm gonna get raped on a price.

But you didn't put a filter on your PCV valve. You merely changed the air supply to the crankcase ( on the LHS front) from the air filter box to a local (filtered) point. Your picture looks like it is close to the engine oil dipstick on the front LHS of the engine.

If all of the factory plumbing at the RHS rear of the engine is intact, then your Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve is intact. There is a rubber hose from the rear of the engine block to the PCV valve inlet, then a rubber hose from the PCV valve outlet to the fwd RHS of the intake manifold. Refer to jeepcoman's pics.
