has anybody tried to open the radiator cap on their WK? my '05 GD's radiator cap does not open. it twists, but when i pull it does not open it seems to be locked. When Idle, my jeep revs up on its own from 0.3K RPM to 0.8K RPM, then back down to 0.3, and up again, and so on. a mechanic told it's because there is no coolant. i bought the coolant but, again, i cant take out the radiator cap.
wats the deal?
try to push down while turning it, it is designed this way so that you can release the pressure and not melt your face off. once you have it half way just push downward on it and then turn it the rest of the way off and it will come right off
you should be using the resevoir. its a closed presurized system.
so you will never get it FULL thru radiator cap.
put coolant in the overflow and drive it turn on the heat too to help get airt out of the system. park it check overflow in an hour or two. keep adding fluid this wy until; it stabalizes.
it worked! thanx for the links those guys are great! all that was missing was the pushdown and then twist. but the revving while idle is kinda still there. up and down, up and down! may i need a flush. thats what i'm gonna try.
Yeah if you've got coolant and your reservoir is to the full mark... its not the coolant.
TPS is one thing... think there was a computer update that fixed that issue as well... There are a few others i recall reading about...but coolant being the cause... definitely not. Might as well find another mechanic as well... that's just a bogus claim that it could be that.
