Rain sense wiper issue

On my 06 I just purchased the rain sense isn't working regularly. I'm currious what the sensor connects to on the window. Looking at mine it looks like the sensor is fixed to the window with some clear double sided tape. Is that correct? I started messing with it the other day and it worked for a day or two. Now it's not working again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Rain sense wiper issue

Did you make sure the option was activated at the dealership? Did you make sure that in the EVIC you have them set to rain sense?

They work based on how sensitive you set them on the wiper stalk. I usually have mine set about half way or 3 clicks.

I have them set on the EVIC. When they are set the 5 positions don't do anything even when it's raining hard. The only position that works is the slow and fast settings. When I turn them off in the EVIC the wipers work as normal with the positions being intermittent. I took the cover off the rear view mirror and noticed the sensor wasn't sticking to the window fully. I'm sure that could be part of the issue. I can't really see much because everything is so clustered. What should the sensor connect to? How should it connect? That might help me figure this thing out.

Thanks

Re: Rain sense wiper issue

The sensor should stick flat on the wind shield.

Thanks! Do you know if there's a certain adhesive I need to use? I'm sure that's why they worked for awhile then stopped. Looks like the sensor isn't staying attached to the window.

Re: Rain sense wiper issue

It should have had a clear tape on it to hold it in place.

It does have the clear tape right now, but it's not holding very well. I've had to re-stick the sensor a few times.

Re: Rain sense wiper issue

I removed the rear view mirror and pulled the sensor out. The tape was partially coming off and "foggy" in other parts. The sensor looks like it has been removed before so I hope it's not damaged. Now to find the correct tape...

Mine has never worked since I bought it used. The windsheid was replaced once and I was told that the wrong windsheild was installed and this is why it doesn't work. When I replace the next one, this oner is cracked again, I will get the proper one along with a new sensor and see if this fixes the problem.

In my research I found a few posts that talk about the windshield issue. I'm curious to know what the windshield has to do with the system. From what I can tell the sensor attaches to the window and I'm not sure why it would matter what windshield is in there. I'm sure I'm wrong so I would like to know why.
