Re: Real MPG (2010)

I put 25K/ yr on mine and am always first to leave a red light . Typically average 14mpg summer time with the air running and 15 in the winter.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

I call BS on the mileage claims. If you drive the v6 like you would a v8, sure, your mileage could even be worse than the 4.7. But avoid WOT and the 3.7 will beat the 4.7 in gas mileage. It just won't win many races when the light turns green. Once you accept that you'll be ok.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

In these threads i always say that no matter what unless you are constantly driving highway, you will get 15 mpg to 17 tops for an AVERAGE. Its what it is if you have the v8. My signature shows my fuelly account and i have logged over 47000 miles on my jeep at about 70% city. I get 15. If you are mostly highway you should get 17. Click on my fuelly page and you will get plenty of good data.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

I bought a 2012 with the 3.7 engine in September. Commuting to work (mostly highway with stoplights and suburb freeway) I averaged about 25 mpg before it cooled off. The last couple of tanks with this cold weather (0 in the morning) have been about 2.15 mpg. I am a gentle driver.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

If you're towing, serious off roading, or race from stoplights buy one of the V-8's. If you want the same vehicle, but cheaper in every way buy the V-6. Insurance is cheaper , fuel is cheaper, and maitenance is cheaper.

Ya, I'm definitely going to go the 3.7 route. I won't be doing any crazy stuff with it, just to work and back. I don't want to have any issues with snow and I think the 3.7 will do just fine with that.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

Hi jagi,
I agree with Mike.. check out the long term mpg's posted by other 3.7 owners on a mileage tracking site like Fuelly. There's good hard data to back up the numbers for lots of 3.7's. In my own experience, and with the Hemi, I am averaging just over 14 mpg's with a mostly urban driving mix. If it were not for stopping and re-starting again (which is what sucks all the gas) I would be getting a cruising average of 17 mpg. No complaints, I love this ride. The Jeep is a heavy beast so take that into consideration, with more highway miles you can get some decent numbers with the 3.7 and you'll be smiling the whole time.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

I will add that I have owned 6 cars in my time and this is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. I am more than happy with the 3.7 for my needs. I just feel like I'm in a tank in this thing and as long as you follow a solid maintenance schedule you should be golden. I plan on holding on to mine until it just can't go any further.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

I have the 5.7 Hemi. I get 11 to 12 around town, 16 to 17 Hwy and 19 to 20 on a road trip. I was a little shocked at first, but considering that it is a tank, it's really not that bad. My parents have the Liberty with a 3.7 and in that jeep it is a well matched power plant. I never found it lacking for power, but the liberty weighs less. Also the liberty only has slightly less usable cargo capacity. I liked both, but in the end I liked the GC more.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

i have a 2006 4.7 and my gas mileage blows. Everything is up kept. I know my computer MPG isn't the most accurate, but it says I get about 12 MPG overall. When I'm on the highway, if I keep it at/below 2000 rpm (60mph), I get around 18-19...But c'mon...realistically I drive about 75 on the highway, and the MPG suffers and goes to about 16-17....I love my Jeep though. Just something you have to accept.

Re: Real MPG (2010)

Reviving this old thread... I just posted 21.5 mpg on a 125 mile highway trip and 70 degrees outside. All flat. Had it at 22.8 until I hit the town at the end and did the stop and go thing through 6-7 lights. Had it in cruise at 65 mph, with the diablo mpg tune installed. If I didn't have these damn winter tires on I bet it would have been 23 overall.

I have to agree, the EPA standards are based on a 50 mph test for hwy mileage. It's really a joke if anyone on a highway anywhere drove at that speed willingly. My wife and I were coming back from arizona once and missed our last gas stop. I drove her truck at 55 mph and of the other people who were desperately looking for a gas station, we were the only ones who made to the next stop. The rest of them fell to the side of the road with hazard lights on because they raced ahead. The needle was way past "E", but yes you can get good mileage if you drive like Jimmy Carter.

But don't feel bad. If jeep says the hemi will get 15/20 and you get 12/17 you are only down 3 mpg. Think of all the people who bought Prius' rated at 53 hwy and only got 37mpg. They lost more MPG than you can even get around town. Now you don't feel so bad.
