I don't know if anyone knows but the WJ had more volume than the WK does.. I think it lost close to four cubic feet... all because of the elevated cargo floor and locating the spare under the Jeep instead of a trap door. For the WK2 the spare goes back into a trap door

Frank, I doubt it's a feasible option to exercise, but would it be out of the question (or even possible) to have a shop bore out some of the area under the Jeep to fit the new tire?

If I didn't have the factory hitch, I would be able to squeeze it up there. I'd have to do a lot of trimming to the hitch bolts and parts of the hitch itself, plus I'd have to leave the spare deflated which doesn't really do me much good.

Good point.. check JU for some threads.. I've seen a few write ups where people cut into their tow hitch bracing ( but I wouldn't )
