Rear drive shaft univeral joints

I have a 05 WK 4.7l I am trying to find out if the rear universal joints can be replaced or if I have to get the whole shaft as a unit. I have been told both ways so was looking for help here. Has anyone on hear had to replace repair them? Any one that can help me out any help would be appreciated thanks.

Re: Rear drive shaft univeral joints

I'm wondering the same thing. I was crawling around under my '06 4.7 and noticed the yoke on the driveshaft that holds the ujoint has divots around the edge where you'd typically find the retaining rings. it didn't look like you'd be able to replace just the ujoint and that the shaft would have to be replaced too.

If this is actually the case it makes no sense to me.

Re: Rear drive shaft univeral joints

Found a cheap used with one low miles from a salvage yard. Fixed my problem until I can get one that can be greased and replaced if needed.

Re: Rear drive shaft univeral joints

The unis are staked in place and one use only. A few have pressed them out and changed them with mixed results. Some have let go later after the change. Can do quite some damage if they do getting flung around. Can also get a full replacement with changable unis made all in steel. There was a vendor on ebay selling them.
