Removing headlights in a 08-10 WK

So I plan on swapping out my halogen headlights for the OEM HID units this weekend. I already have them wired up and ready to go thanks to Scott's DIY

Question....does the front bumper need to be removed to access the lower screws holding in the headlight? I haven't taken a close look, but it looks pretty tight to get to those screws

Thanks for any help!

I think you can get to the lower bolts without having to remove the bumper, while I had my airdam off I test fit the socket on the bottom bolts and I was able to get to them with an extension

i think there's 3 bolts for each lamp and I manage to get them off without taking the bumper off. You may have to pull the bumper forward a little to get socket for the bolt under the lamp

Re: Removing headlights in a 08-10 WK

I find it easier to remove the bumper than fight those TWO bolts.

but if you use a 1/4 inch stuff with some long extensions, you can get them out.

time to consider a plastic rivet gun and box of rivets. EX:

anyone ever try to get to the very corner bulb holder thru the trap door in the fender. well getting it out aint tooo bad, but lets talk about getting it back in. I find it way easier to remove the inner fender well in about 5 minutes then to try to get that thing in the 'factory' way. 4 rivets and 2 push-pin things.

the bolt next to the grill on the bottom is the hardest...except on the 08-10's. Get a small 1/4" rachet, remove the grill and you will see the space between the bumper and the headlight to squeeze the rachet through. I can remove both my headlamps now in 5 minutes thanks to the 08-10 bumper.

Hey guys, with the help of this thread I have the headlamp out. How in the world do I detach the side markers bulb?

Scott said because of the difference in the headlight "frame" between the 07 and 08, we do not have to take off the bumper. (us with the 08's I mean)... and I am doing that this weekend too, or maybe very early next week. I would be interested to know how it went for you. You can pm me if you wish.

Scott, do you remove the grille every time?

Worked exactly as he said. There are three bolts. Once you remove the grill you will see the first is on top of the headlight in plain view. The second is on the bottom of the headlight near the grill - this is where the space Scott mentioned comes into play - its just big enough to fit a small ratchet in there to loosen it. The third is on the bottom of the headlight closest to the fender. Here is where you can lay on the the ground, get a flashlight and look up behind the plastic splashguard - you will see it in plain view and can remove it with ease.
