Have you ever looked into just purchasing a new needle and replacing it yourself? The gauge cluster isn't too difficult to take out. You m ay be able to just replace the needle. I'm not sure how it's attached but it's worth a look.

Also, the mileage is stored in the gauge cluster so if you replace the whole thing you're mileage will be off.
