Ribbon from behind steering wheel

So, driving home yesterday, stopped at Auto Zone to pickup some Diff oil to do the front. After hearing howling for so long, and changing the back, the condition of it made me want to change the front as well. Anyways, when I left, I noticed a clicking sound from the steering wheel, then noticed none of my audio control were working, and none of my front controls, nor my horn. Then my airbag light came on.

Looking around, I found a white ribbon, I'm guessing the clock spring, coming from behind the steering wheel. Was looked torn, but I didn't want to mess with it too much, not knowing exactly what it was.

My question is, what are my options now. Do I need to replace the whole steering wheel? Can I just replace the clock spring? If I do replace the steering wheel, can I keep my current air bag(I have an 08).

I've searched around here, but haven't found anything recent.

Thanks!!

Yup, definitely the CS. You shouldn't have to replace the whole steering wheel, at least from my experiences with clock springs on other vehicles.

Clock spring is separate IIRC. You can literally strip the whole wheel down to just the leather / wood outer. Even all the switches just clip in

Re: Ribbon from behind steering wheel

Just to update according to the parts listing, the clock spring is a seperate piece on 2008 + WKs. Before then you had to replace the entire module. Going to be tackling this in a few minutes. Found a tear down video on youtube, where the guy is replacing his cancel cam,https://youtu.be/wFc9T1khkeg

plan on following this to hopefully a clock spring replacement.
