RIP 2005 limited 5* front impact crash test raiting

Few months ago on a damp evening, I was traveling on I-95 in the Daytona Beach area heading north in the center lane. Unaware, ahead on an entrance ramp a 26 year old is losing control of his father's full size GMC 1500 step side. He spun out on the ramp as he was merging onto I-95 and shot across all lanes.

Before I could react I felt a harsh impact. It was almost as if it was a dream. A sudden impact countered with crunching metal, shattered glass and skidding tires came to a stop. As I come to realize what has happened, again I'm startled as I'm sitting perpendicular to the interstate in the middle lane. Thankfully everyone else that was traveling northbound were stopped. My mind eases in the smoke fulfilled cabin as I realize I'm okay. As I forcefully open the drivers door to exit, I notice my WK hissing fluids as a fellow citizen approaches me to ask if I was okay. Thank you to the guy driving an Acura that came to my aid. I appreciate it.

Pics to follow:

Thank you Jeep for making such a well made vehicle!

Thanks! Both of us should be very thankful that we both walked away. That accident alone made me want another GC just for the safety factor!

Sheesh, what a wreck! Glad you're okay. Looks like the truck lost it's rear end! WHOA! I'm assuming any insurance adjuster totaled your WK on the spot. Time to find another!

Thanks! The other guys insurance (Liberty Mutual) was a pita! I had to fight them during the whole process. Trying to get a rental took 20-25 days. When the adjuster looked at it, he claimed there was only $3600 in damages. I told them that was insane and they took it to one of their preferred shops to get the work done. Within a day the shop called me and said they were not going to even attempt to fix it. They stopped the estimate at $11k in damages.

so what's going to happen now? hopefully mutual don't skip town just to avoid a payment.

hope my 02 limited keeps me safe if it ever comes to it, just as much as your 05 did.

Thankfully LM ended it by writing me a check for $12k and all ended pretty well. I had the option to buy the totaled WK back for $2500 but had nowhere to store it.

Thank you, I actually ended up with a Mazda 6 since my wife just had our daughter 3 weeks prior to the accident. The Mazda lasted 4 months and we couldn't take it. We wanted our Jeep back lol.

So to answer your question, yes the WK2 is our replacement. I'll probably never again own a sedan.
