Rooftop carrier

I'm looking for anyone who has traveled or had experience with a rooftop storage setup. The family and I are going on a roadtrip soon and needless to say, my wife is a bit of an overpacker. So we're thinking of one of those weatherproof bags from J4J. My biggest concern is the roof rails hanging on and not tearing out. Anyone with any experience with this?

Thanks for any input.

Re: Rooftop carrier

I expect the roof rails would hold, but you gotta make sure the top is closed properly. I saw a case where the lid let go and the family's clothing was scattered for a quarter mile on the 401 hwy between Montreal and Toronto. That had to suck.

Re: Rooftop carrier

As I hit the post button I just realized you're talking about the cargo bag, not the hard shell. My bad.

Re: Rooftop carrier

Just make sure the weight in the bag doesn't exceed the weight limit of the rails... which is what? Like 150lbs?
