Re: Rust...RUST....RUUUUUST! HELP ME!

rust repair is always a pain to learn, mostly because rust never sleeps! if you don't manage to get all the rust neutralized, it will get worse. on my el camino, i've been dealing with a ton of rust, though thankfully, most of it is surface rust. there are tons of videos on youtube that show you rust repair d.i.y. and will give you tips and tricks. typing "rust repair" in youtube search gave me 101,000 results

Re: Rust...RUST....RUUUUUST! HELP ME!

Well I checked my shop and couldn't find that penetrating spray for rust protection. It's been 10 years since i used it last so i might have used it all up last time. I will check stores again and see if I can find some more.

Well, I went on Amazon & I found something called: Corrosion X

Apparently it's all the rage...It can help prevent & keep rust under control
I'll give it a shot.

CorrosionX Lubricant/Penetrant, 16 oz. aerosol (90102) : Amazon.com : Automotive

Re: Rust...RUST....RUUUUUST! HELP ME!

I am supprised that my new 2014 Grand Cherokee is showing signs of rust in the wheels. I ordered the 20" wheels which leaves the wheel hubs more exposed and the hubs are showing early signs of rust. The hubs are painted the same color as the body (silver) and at first I thought that what I was observing was brake dust but sadly it appears that they re rust bubbles. The Jeep was delivered on July 26, 2013 after being constructed on 7/19 and has not experienced any of the harsh weather of the north as I live in Florida. The Jeep has gone through car washes where they have wheel scrubbers so I am wondering if this could be the problem.
Should I have the hubs removed and wire brushed and plated/painted. Any advice would be appreciateed

Re: Rust...RUST....RUUUUUST! HELP ME!

Rust started to develop on the area just above the windshield on my 2003 Liberty about years ago due to road debris damage. I had that area repainted for a few hundred dollars and it still looked great when I traded it in a few years later. It is absolutely worth getting repaired now.

Re: Rust...RUST....RUUUUUST! HELP ME!

Maybe it would be best to take it into a dealer. This may be a warranty item rather than damage?????????

The Warranty I have only covers Performace, nothing Visual.

If I've got a problem with the transmission, I take it to the dealer
If My Side Mirror broke, I'm out of luck

Re: Rust...RUST....RUUUUUST! HELP ME!

a product i swear by is por 15. basically, you paint it over the rusted area and it converts it to a workable surface. i've painted most of my el camino's frame with it and slathered it on the insides of the doors. it spreads on smoothly and dries to a very hard surface

Re: Rust...RUST....RUUUUUST! HELP ME!

Had the same issue with my rear passenger door. Took a di-grinder to it down to the metal along the whole edge. Re primed and painted with a few coats and the rust hasn't returned.

Re: Rust...RUST....RUUUUUST! HELP ME!

I'd love to know (for the price you were quoted) exactly how they intend to repair the rust in the door seam. Depending on what they intend to do, this could be a DIY.

I did my old XJ's inner lower door seam area. Sanded/wire wheeled, and painted with the POR system. It never got worse. That stuff is bulletproof. For the inside of a door skin that you're never going to see, it's perfect because you can just brush it on. It doesn't have to look showroom. Regardless, I taped the area off, and brushed on the coating, then peeled the tape off. Almost looked like glossy bedliner across the bottom of the door.

3 Different Locations:

I took my car to a local Body Shop....They said that The Fuel Door & Roof are no big deal. But the Door is a problem

They said the Door's Rust is still in it's "early stages" (which means no bubbles) so it can be fixed easily.

They're charging $285..Take a look at the pics...is it worth what they're asking?
