Sat nav retro-fit??

Guys,

Does any body know if it possible to easily retro-fit the Jeep factory Naviagation system into a 2005 WK?

If it is possible, then is it a plug and play affair or maybe it is more complex?

Thanks in advance.

Reecy

Re: Sat nav retro-fit??

do you know if you have a factory amp? if not, you will have issue with the voice. but everything else should plug direectly in.

you will need the dash bezel to match; khaki or grey only 2 choices. found on ebay.

Re: Sat nav retro-fit??

if you don't have the boston acoustics system, it will be FAR cheaper to go aftermarket. I went with a Pioneer AVIC that has bluetooth, ipod, and nav in a double din unit and couldn't be happier. Even the sound quality is better than stock, without using any amps. Do replace the factory speakers if they're not the bostons- that was a huge improvement too.

Re: Sat nav retro-fit??

i did the swap and it is as simple as removing the bezel, a few screws, putting in the new radio with 4 screws and putting the bezel back on. all wires are plug and play, but as said above....... if you dont have the boston system, the voice will suck.

Re: Sat nav retro-fit??

Not to hijack the thread, but I do have my REC navigation for sale in the classifieds. If you have the amp already, then it is a simple install ( 4 screws hold in the radio)

Why buy the factory NAV? Aftermarket NAVs are cheaper.

Re: Sat nav retro-fit??

I rather have a 7" Pioneer. I'm ordering one this week. The factory rear view camera is a joke too. Mine is hidden. Hidden very well.

Re: Sat nav retro-fit??

I have the pioneer avic 920bt with a universal cam.. looks pretty good and the system does everything I need. I do however like the look/sound of the factory nav better.

The sound from the pioneer gets distorted due to the amp. I plan on upgrading this down the line... but for now it still sounds pretty bad at louder volumes.

That's because the watt output from the aftermarket Pioneer is more than the Mygig.

That's why it's sound so distorted.

MyGiG is 16.5 watts per channel/4 chennels

Pioneer AVIC 920 is 60 watts per channel/4channels

Seriously, if you're looking for good sound, keep the Pioneer and upgrade everything else, example: amp, speakers, wires, and so on.

You'd come out a lot cheaper. I know sound man. Lol.

Re: Sat nav retro-fit??

I have done quite a few full car installs, its just too cold in MA right now to do that so I plan on upgrading down the line. I plan on doing mb quartz for the speakers... had them in my last car and loved the sound.

Re: Sat nav retro-fit??

That's cool. I just don't think the MYGIG is worth the money. If you're trying to keep the factory look then yes; it's beautiful in there. But if you want good sound quality, do it right.

I don't need an amp on door speakers and my Jeep would sound a hell lot better than a WK with the whole OEM set up if with the right selection installed.

My point is for looks, MGIG. For sound and looks, (because an aftermarket radio does not look bad at all IMO), get a good quality aftermarket double din unit.

Now I do like to keep the factory look on the outside of the my WK as much as possible (lift with mud terrains on stock wheels, Mopar roof basket). But the inside, I don't really care.
