Re: Selling

Thanks and it's in pretty good shape and nothing really wrong with it; just I think I made a bad decision in the *type* of vehicle realistically at this point and day to day. I wish I could keep it for a second vehicle, but things never go that easy, lol.

Yeah, they are nice vehicles and can't wait to drive a manual and a car with power again

anyhow, according to kbb (private party) for my 05 with its options and mileage:

More Photos
Condition Value Excellent
$20,145
Good
$19,195
Fair
$17,595

Not that it means a whole lot (esp in this economy and hence my posting on the true market with time and such), but I think ~$18k would be a good price and also from what I've seen on the autotrader and whatnot...

Regardless, I have to wait until I hear from my credit union hopefully tomorrow. I can get financed at dealer, but would like to do some real shopping and not worry about being stuck dealing with them.

Re: Selling

I paid $18,000 for my 2005 Limited w/ HEMI and all options except for parksense in October of 2008. These days I seem them at most dealers for $14-15K. I think you'd be hard pressed to get $18K for it.

X2. Unless you found a truly witless buyer. I wish you the best but $18K is up there.

Re: Selling

Also, when I was looking into trucks, 3 out of the 4 dealers I went to offered me a max of $14,300 and I had to work to get to that number.... those were the dealers where I was looking at 2004-2006 F250's. Their first offers were around $12,000. I ended up get $20K on trade, but only because I bought a new truck and they needed the sale.

Re: Selling

Although it's far away from you, you might consider contacting Stephen Wade Cadillac in St George, Utah. Pretty cool people and they have the market to sell your trade.
Their service department impressed the heck out of me last week when I needed emergency repairs and I wandered back and forth between their different dealerships for several hours last Friday.

Re: Selling

A dealer isn't going to give you $18k on your trade unless they are killing you on the CTS-V. They will take a loss on one side of the deal, but not both. The bottom line has to be in the black.

Re: Selling

I'm talking about private party...the dealer offered me $14k for it and that's too low...Perhaps $18 is a little high, but $16-ish shouldn't be an issue (private party)...Not gonna give it away for $14k, lol. Also, I think geography has alot to do with market value and generally speaking, it seems we are on the higher end (probably cause no rust, etc.?)

Thanks, guys.

Sickening to see depreciation on these things. I'd hate to be the sucker that bought one brand new Sadly, Chryslers are poor at holding value and I should've known better. With the 11's coming out, I better cut my losses now before this thing is only worth $8k.

Re: Selling

What year CTS-V are you looking at? 04-05 have LS6's, 06-07's have the LS2's. There is a lot of debate on the Cadillac forums over which is better, but there are more aftermarket parts for the LS6

I sold mine back in October. Plan was to save up for a used 09. Currently used 09's can be found right at $49-50k. Im hoping another year theyll be in the high $30's but we'll see.

As far as your question, obviously the responsible thing to do would be to sell the Jeep first. There'll always be more V's coming up for sale in the future. 1 thing i would suggest is to do a nationwide search on auto trader. Searching near you makes sense of course, but if finding a car $4k less that's a 1,000miles away is worth a $400 plane ticket in my opinion. Good luck, i love the V's (haha). Just be careful with that rear differential, no burnouts unless you get the Hendrix Engineering or G-force axles!

Also try out http://crazedlist.org/ You can search craigslist in all major US cities and usually find some cars that arent on autotrader or ebaymotors

Re: Selling

Thanks for the info. From what I've heard (just started doing actual real research), the 05+ had an upgraded rear dif, although I'm sure it's still prone to breakage; especially with a lot of power/traction and/or poor maintenance. People would say the same thing about the GTO's rear diff (also IRS), but never had any issues in 65k I owned it [although I bought new, so knew history], although mine was stock mostly and I never abused it really.

I wonder if the LS6 is throttle cable or DBW; I know the LS1 was cable and LS2 DBW, but being in the caddy, would think the latter for either engine. Good to know about the more availability of parts though. Probably not a *whole lot* interchangeable from the others "2's" (GTO, vette, SSR, TB SS) I'd imagine. I'm not looking to totally modify it, but still...

Anyway, looking more for a 2006, but those seem to be the least common for sale right now [because I'm looking for one, ha ha]; main reason is interest rates are 2% lower between the years and I can extend it out longer (like the Jeep I have, plan is to pay it off sooner than later after I sell some stuff, but like the idea of lower payment to have as a cushion)...Nothing wrong with a 2005 other than that (and deciding between the engines)...Seems 2004 is bad news for diffs. I am going to look at on tomorrow, but it has two things against it: Black and '05 otherwise, has really low miles and seems to be in good shape.

I have been pre-approved for a loan from my credit union, in addition to my Jeep that I have, so I do have an option now. However, my CU wants to see the car for appraisal, so it kind of rules out things that are vary far. Otherwise, I totally agree with you on buying out of state/farther away...that's how I bought my gvr4 from MD and had it shipped here.

Re: Selling

It was my understanding the 04's and 05's had the same diffs. The new part # came out on the 06's. Of course when my diff went they replaced it with the 06 part#, so theres a chance you could come across an 04 or 05 with the better diff. The case itself is obviously fairly weak, but it's the wheel hop that really causes the problem. this was fixed on the 09 V's and the ZR1 vettes by increasing the diameter of one of the axles. This causes the axles to twist at different rates and prevented the reciprocation of twist and releasing the torque (aka wheelhop). So the aftermarket community copied that for the 1st Gen V's and it worked great! My axles were about $1200 and pretty easy to install. Was well worth it having the assurance i could launch froma light without fear. Both the LS6 and LS2's are drive by wire. The LS2's wire harness has several more wires on the TB. I know this first hand as i had to splice each one to extend them when installing a supercharger. The LS2s are still a great engine and respond well to CAM upgrades and headers. Also it'll be worth more when you go to sell it because it'll be newer. Plus the lower interest rate is a bonus as well. I've been looking at Vipers lately and am having trouble finding financing for an 03 or 04 beyond 36 months. $45k at 36 months equals quite a hefty payment!
