^hadnt even considered that. Just looked like a rust chip to me (someone dings the panel, a small crack forms, water gets under and expands/compressed until the chip pops out and the rust is left underneath.

Well bondo is hard also, just an idea. Swing it by a local auto body shop and have them estimate it. dont go to service king, maaco, or a chain unless you plan to pay out the A for repairs. It may just be a quick fix where the person prior didnt prep it right with primer, etc. Ask around in your town for a great repair shop that is cheap.

depending on the size, over $400 from a good private shop

Make sure they aren't just replacing the panel in your bid as well. Too many places now will just get a new panel and spray it.

It's part of the unibody...can't be replaced....at least not cheap.

I got two quotes this morning. One was 650 the other 450.

The guy that wants 650 says he has to remove the rear window?!?

The guy for 450 says the window doesn't need to come out.

The reason they want to remove the quarter glass is because that is the way to do the job the proper way. The reason behind it that your (meaning the shop) is only going to be able to prep the paint so well (next to the window rubber) to accept the new paint. If not properly prepped the new paint will not properly adhere to the old paint and eventually peel back from that area. If that quarter panel has already been repainted then sure as shit it most likely wasn't done right and if I were that shop I wouldnt want to touch the job unless I knew I was going to be able to correct the previous repairs problems. Just a little insight on why one shop wants more then the other.

Remember that the "lifetime" warranty is as long as YOU own the vehicle. A proper repair will last...well....15+ years, with proper vehicle care. The cheap repair will last 3-5 years. Guess how long the average person keeps a vehicle for? 3-5 years. SO they are betting on you not owning the vehicle by the time the cheap repair does the exact same thing that is happening to you now.
