Shaky steering Wheel

my steering wheel starts to violently shack as soon as i reach 70mph. any idea what the issue might be? i checked to bolts on the wheels, they are all nice and tightly secured.

Re: Shaky steering Wheel

Your tires may be un-balanced, if so, you would need to get them re-balanced by a tire shop OR there might be mud or something inside the rim acting as a counter weight which can also throw off the balance, make sure they are nice and clean on the inside (and outside ) then if they still wobble at high speed, you should consider getting them re-balanced. This is all assuming of course that there is no damage to a wheel bearing or a steering component, etc. good luck!

Re: Shaky steering Wheel

A badly warped brake rotor can cause a little shake in the steering wheel as well.

Check wheel balance first (it's cheap, like me ). You could have thrown a wheel-balancing weight.

Rotate tires front-to-back on same side and re-test at speed. If it goes away, get the rear 2 tires balanced (the ones that used to be on the front).

Re: Shaky steering Wheel

1) wheels need balancing 2) might be a defective tire 3) check tire pressure 4) bent rim 5) wheel alignment 6) driveline component, i.e., drive shaft, transfer case or torque converter. Its not mud. Mud would shake the wheels at more like 35-40 MPH.

Re: Shaky steering Wheel

Same problem here but i blame my lower control arm bushings so i need to replace both and then get the tires rebalanced using weights instead of those cheap wheel stick on weights.
