Shift Module

I posted this on the Tech/DIY forum as part of an ongoing post. Thought it'd be a good idea to post here as well.

http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread...583#post197583

Hi , My 2005 GC Laredo 4wd was just at the Dlr for a misfire , they fixed this (by changing out a few O2 sensors) but also told me i'm getting codes for my shifter module. At $1200 i told em' i'd pass.

I found the TSB and it shows part # 68004143AC. I found one online but my question is can i use this part instead of the higher priced AF suffixed part? Anyone know? Thanks

Re: Shift Module

the problem is there are quite a few different shift modules per trans then my changes as well. so who knows that other one will work or if you can even find it. usually the later ones supercede earlier so you cant go back.

look for a post by me where i paste insructions on how to take the module apart and clean the contacts. its not that difficult and its practically free so it dont work nothing lost but time.

Re: Shift Module

Thanks Robpp, i have printed your post and intend to try it this weekend.
For what its worth i have found the part per the TSB , # 68004143AD (supersedes AC) and its $350 less part #68004143AF. Anyway, will try cleaning and go from there.

Re: Shift Module

good luck and report back the results.
be sure to disconnect the negative before messing with anything electrical.

now I have a module that could work and I can let it go for like a hundo. issue is I dont have the part number. It is brand new. I have the module and I have the packing slip but nothing shows the part number. its def a NAG1 (3.7 or SRT8) as it dont have the lo-range switch.

if it turns out you need one, we should see if this is what you need. maybe save some coin.

but really, maybe the cleaning will work

one more thing: here is a link to a "how-to" remove the shift module: http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=8305

Re: Shift Module

Robbpp, i removed and cleaned the shifter module, but honestly i wasnt that dirty. Snapped some pics of the numbers stamped on the module (PP052267053) and the cherry label. I cleaned it with some contact cleaner and put it back together. No major differnce other than now the - + gear selector wont work, stays in "D".

I tried to read codes by turning the ign key 3 times Off/ON/Off/On/Off/On, but didnt work. I could faintly make out a msg "transmission overtemp" in the information display.

What are the numbers on your shift module?

Re: Shift Module

I cleaned it but hadnt cleared any codes or check for any. Just immedietaly noticed that the -+ gear selector doesnt work anymore. It worked fine when i took it out. I will remove it again and check contacts, dont understand why that would stop working.

I have a data cable (when i used my VAG for an AUdi) so i'll check if i can download a freeware obdII scanner and check codes.

What did you notice was different with yours, the numbers?

Re: Shift Module

yeah that number is different. i linked to the pics.

issue is they made these for all jeeps. now the 4.7 and 5.7 had the lorange thingy so they are easily found.

so the 3.7 and the srt8 LOOK the same but have different part numbers.

I will see if i can find someone can help us with these.

Re: Shift Module

Call up 800 992 1997 they are there to help customers and may be willing to assist with a deductible. This was a HUGE ISSUE a few years ago, like every grand/commander around needed them, it was ugly... if not try a scrap yard. most have been repalced so they will be updated.

btw chrysler part numbers start aa and go to a_ the second letter is the indicator of a super-session .
