No matter what plugs you install whether they are oem or aftermarket, you should always make sure they are gapped properly. I think irf was saying something along the lines of of .043 inch gap? I think most of the time OEM plugs are within the recommend gapping distance but it still doesn't hurt to check. If it's too big of a gap you will start missing at high speeds or may not get any spark. If it's too small of a gap, you won't get enough spark to ignite the air/fuel mixture causing your car/jeep to run rich.

Also i have found that it's very important to check the plugs every few thousand miles to make sure the gap is still with in recommend spec. I don't know how often you guys change your oil but with me, every 3-4k miles when i do the change, i check the plugs. I remember the first time i ever gapped spark plugs properly, i was blow away by the difference, and just to be clear, I didn't gain extra power, i just recovered lost power.

This is my understanding and i may be wrong but that's why we're posting this to see what you all think.

Re: spark plug replacement

In all seriousness, you can go to PepBoys or autozone and buy a spark plug gapping tool for a couple dollars.

Either a coin like this

or something like this

They are marked so just gap it accordingly. The coin gives you a more exact gapping but both do the job.
