I've had my 05 jeep limited almost two months now and its got around 85k miles on the 5.7L. When cruising along around 1500rpm it had a bit of a "sputter" in the 50-60mph range. what do you guys think? Plugs? Also is barely gets 18mpg on the highway. That seem normal? Or should I get a little better? That's another reason I thought it may need some new plugs.

If that's the case what plugs do you guys recommend? "

If you just bought it and don't know the maintenance history, IMO, you should just do a complete major service/inspection. Include all fluids/oils/filters, antifreeze change, spark plug, spark plug wires, EGR Valve, MAP Sensor, PCV Valve (also clean behind the throttle body butterfly and buy a catch can), and if that doesn't significantly improve the mileage, also change all the O2 Sensors. That's what I did with mine when I bought it with 48K on it. I didn't have a bad mileage problem though, so didn't do the whole enchilada until 60K. I changed the EGR Valve at 54K (failed) and did the O2's a little after the 60K service, because one was failing and one was getting "lazy". A major service will run you about $500 in parts (fluids/oils/filters, etc.) if you do it all yourself. If you take it somewhere else, make sure you watch them like a hawk. Many dealers (including mine) don't even know how to service them properly.

Good idea. Not looking to spend that much right off but may do the main things then do the rest soon after. It showed on the car fax that all the services were done but like you said the dealerships cut corners. I know I used to be a ford tech. - personally didn't cut corners but seen it done way too often. If I don't do the work myself which I probably will I will have a friend that is still a tech do it for me or at least help me do it all.

That isn't a mds engine correct?

I hear you. I prioritized mine and acquired everything a little at a time over about 2-3 months. Wasn't as painful that way. Once I gathered everything up, I just started picking away at it over about a two week period. Would have been much quicker, except for the crappy weather.
