Steering Wheel Logo/Airbag Cover Removal?

Two years ago, in a fit of rage, I hammer-fisted the center of my steering wheel & mangled the flimsy logo insert on the airbag cover. The logo itself has these little tabs that bend under the airbag cover to hold it in place. I was recently at a junkyard to check some WK's & found the logo insert still installed. They will fling it to me as long as I can remove it from the airbag cover. Is removing / installing the airbag cover a simple task? I'll have to repeat the process on my WK as well.

removing the airbag cover is incredibly easy! I beleive its 2 10mm bolts from the backside of the steering wheel, you can see them, they are right to the inside of the steering wheel controls (if you have them). Remove those and the cover comes right off, takes less than 5 min.

I hammer-fisted my steering wheel as well, severely mangling the logo insert on the airbag cover. What became of your situation? Were you able to isolate the emblem by itself, or did you have to buy a whole new airbag for the steering wheel? You KNOW somebody has a box full of these emblems somewhere. Wish I could find them.

Re: Steering Wheel Logo/Airbag Cover Removal?

I'm still rockin' the mangled logo. I did some investigating to see what it would take to properly replace it. There are two metric bolts on the back of the steering wheel. The cover comes off with the airbag unit, which is a flat box that is held in place by several plastic tabs all the way around. I want to say at least two on each side. After taking a peek, I didn't go an further & just haven't made it out to the scrap yard again. I'll have to tackle it soon though. I've stumbled across a few on eBay for like $36 before. I kinda think that all of the logos for that era of Jeeps are the same.
