Re: Steering wheel swap DIY?

To clarify... The column is double cut as is the wheel so it will in theory only go on one way unless you really applied some force when putting it back on.

Thanks, I got it installed today. Took about 20 minutes from start to finish with the aid of a harmonic balancer puller that I rented from O'Reilly's on their loaner tool program. The project was a LOT easier than I thought it would be.

P.S. - I THOUGHT that I'd have to disconnect the airbag pigtails...but not so! WOOHOO! New steering wheel that my hand doesn't stick to like glue!

Re: Steering wheel swap DIY?

looks good. I knew I needed a steering wheel puller, but I made myself something similar with a piece of metal, 2 big bolts, and some fat nut/bolts/pipes; 2 wrenches (1 to lock the system and another to pull it up while unscrewing it), 5 minutes later, and I got this baby installed.

Re: Steering wheel swap DIY?

Interesting.... The 08-10 must be different cause I didn't even need a puller... It was rather quite a simple job actually.

I have a 2009 overland and looking into removing the steering wheel for leather wrapping. My steering wheel is equipped with cruise control, control buttons and buttons on the back. Can you give some guidance how to remove it ? No need for puller, no need for new bolt ?

Thanks !

Re: Steering wheel swap DIY?

No just three clips that you can use a flat head or trim stick to do.... JUST MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED BEFORE ANyTHING ELSE AND WEAR LATEX GLOVES WHEN UNPLUGGING THE AIRBAG!!!!
