The 3.7L upping gas milage thread.

Ok guys, I think I am going to start expirmenting on my car how to get some better gas milage out of this thing.

So far I have..
-Aligned vehicle
-Installed new plugs

and thats it! haha.

So what else can I do? I'm willing to go out of the box to see what I can do to make this car more gas friendly. I average about 20-22mpg on the highway and 15-16 in the city.

I've been unlucky about finding pcm tunes for this car. I heard something about the IAT resistor mod. Is that doable on the 3.7L? I want to stay away from a CAI UNLESS I tune the pcm. Could I do a throttle body or even possible (old school) a water jet setup?

Chime in peeps I'm aiming for as much as I can get!

Re: The 3.7L upping gas milage thread.

Intake, exhuast, custom tune(kinda pricy since there isnt superchips/diablo/sct tuner off the shelf for the 3.7L), throttle body port and polish, lower it, Shred pounds off it - will help alot, body kit for aero - make it less like a moving brick.

Your in a heavy SUV... not much you can do. lol

Re: The 3.7L upping gas milage thread.

You could also switch to synthetic oil, install a powerwire, and a weld on a muffler. I have definitely seen an increase in mpg's from each one of these mods.

That's really the bottom line. You are driving a 4000 pound suv, with a not so efficient Chrysler suv engine. Im assuming your Jeep is a 4x4 also. What you are averaging is what you are going to get at the most, there's not much more you are going to be able to get outta it.

Re: The 3.7L upping gas milage thread.

U can also inflate the tires to 35-40psi. You could also purchase lower resistance rolling tires. You'll sacrifice handling and stopping distance, but you'll gain in mpg. Sythetic oil will help too. Best bet, just inflate your tires a little more.

Re: The 3.7L upping gas milage thread.

I was going to say get street tires... no all terrains..but like onroad only tires. If you are out to go SRT clone.. might as well lol
