what do you have...i'm thinking 15 in the front and 5 in the backs i want the backs total tint but don't want it to bad offset although its going to be a little different. I have never driven a car with 5% front at night....i am getting mixed opinions but def leaning toward 15 over 20 if i do the front that or the 5.....but for the back i will def tint it out all 5 cause it's the back...
anyone?
thanks again for all the replys and i ment to do 5 vs 15 not 20..

Re: The big debate "window tints" 5% v.s. 20%

I have 50% on the whole windshield and 20% on the front windows. Rest are the windows have the stock tint.

To me this is perfect and there is no need to go darker on any windows.

Re: The big debate "window tints" 5% v.s. 20%

I tint windows for a living and so I tend to jump around on what I think I want all the time. Luckily I can change it whenever i want. I currently have a ceramic 30% on the windshield and also on the driver and front passenger. On the back two doors I have the ceramic 15% and 5% on the bays and the rear hatch. I've found the when sitting on the inside and having 30% on the D/P its easy to see through the outside mirrors and that's really all I need to back into a spot. From the outside, since I have the windshield tinted it makes the D/P look darker anyway.

Keep in mind that the numbers multiply. I'm not positive what comes stock on the back of the GC, but I'd guess it's 30%. So if you apply 5% on the back of the 30%, you're going to get 5% * 30% = 1.5%. A better option would probably be 15% on 30% so you'll get 4.5%. At that point, I'd recommend putting 5% up front and 30% on the entire front windshield. Also, if you add a glare strip that goes to the bottom of your rear view mirror, you'll have a lot easier time using the rear view mirror because there won't be a ton of light around it coming in through the front windshield.

Other things to consider:
-All tint fades with time. So if you're debating between two, it's usually better to go with the darker and park your vehicle outdoors for the first month
-If you ever get on a super dark street, you can always roll your windows down.
-Pictures give you a horrible idea of how dark tint is. The best thing you could do is find some of your buddies that have window tint or go to the tinting shops and sit in their vehicles and see what you like. DO NOT GO OFF OF PICTURES YOU SEE ONLINE.

EDIT: This is why pictures fail...

Re: The big debate "window tints" 5% v.s. 20%

The dark front windows....you get used to them. On my F-350 I used to have a 5% layer and a 35% over that on my front doors. I got used to that, other people couldn't see a damn thing out at night though. 2yrs until the PD put an end to that.
Now, if you put me in a vehicle with 5% fronts I'd be complaining they are too dark until I got used to it, LOL.

On my Jeep I only run 40% on the fronts (for legal reasons), but the back is dark as can be with the stock tint, then a 5% layer and then a 20% layer on top of that. You cannot see inside the back of my Jeep. And with the back being so dark it makes it hard to see in the front even with the 40%, especially if you are looking at an angle.

Re: The big debate "window tints" 5% v.s. 20%

I have 20% over my rear windows and 20% on the front. The fronts don't match the rears, so I'm going to get them redone to either 15% or 5% and then get my windshield tinted with 50%. You can do a search. I made a Tint Thread for those getting tints.

Re: The big debate "window tints" 5% v.s. 20%

I tinted mine 5% all around except for the windshield and I love it. It can be a pain to back out at night but roll the front windows down a bit and your fine. I've decided that from now on all my cars get tinted. I've had it for about 2 months and the only problem I've had with cops is the security guard at school but he can't do anything so it's not really a problem.

You should really tint your front windshield. You'll never not tint it again once you do . If you're rolling 5% all around, I'd recommend 30% on the entire front windshield.

When I get new tint, I originally put 5% on it and 6-8 months later, once it's faded a little bit, I'll then add 15% on top of the 5%. Tint is always on my vehicle week1 of purchasing it. It's definitely the best mod one can do imo... not only does it save your eyes, but it makes your vehicle look badass
