the Jeep is in trouble: :

...and I snapped the belt right off as I punched it onto the freeway topping out at 80 mph. I noticed that the battery light came on when the belt came off and I lost power steering. I then forcefully pulled off the freeway to inspect the damage under the hood, And sure enough NOOO BEEEELT!

So years of redlining it I know is not good, but I get carried away.
I had to park the jeep at 1 of those fancy shell gas stations, in which the attendent will let the morning shift know about why a jeep is parked in the employee parking spot.

I might just go ahead and have the dealer tow it to the jeep service dept. Any thoughts?

Any1 know why this might have happened;besides me beeing a dumbass? As well as prices on a new belt and how hard it would be to put another belt on myself.

Jeep trouble plz help!

This might help. not sure of your enigne layout. This vid is for a 4.7.

I imagine the battery light would've come on because the belt was no longer operating the alternator.

Re: the Jeep is in trouble: :

I spent 25 I belive on a gatorback belt last year. I've seen belts fail usually for three common reason...... It was an old, dry rotted belt and it finally failed... A pulley has quit turning i.e. Idler pulley, water pump, alternator, or a/c pulleys have siezed and caused the belt to melt and shred........ Lastly If you have a oil/coolant leak and its gotten on the belt, the belts become super slick and wet, and it slipped off. Did you try turning all of the pulleys? have you ever replaced the belt? Is there a leak on the front of the engine? as far as putting one on yourself, I think its alot easier the most cars I have to deal with, I'd give it a shot as long as one of the pulley isn't siezed

Re: the Jeep is in trouble: :

Swapping a belt takes like 2 mins. Route it, put a wrench on the tensioner, pull and slip the belt over the last pulley. Checking that everything turns of course is a good idea, but i'd guess the belt was just old. If a pulley seized you prob would have heard or smelt it

Re: the Jeep is in trouble: :

the water pump froze... what does that mean? I checked out the video on replacing the 4.7 belt and that looks easy.

Re: the Jeep is in trouble: :

Yeah, It was 400 for the fix, so it turns out that the water pump did not freeze. It was the belt and tension thingy, It's at the dealer right now. I just called them up to add the spark plug replacement. I cant wait to get back my baby with new plugs! This is my first spark plug replacement since i bought her. I know I should have changed them a long time ago but I am glad I am getting the plugs replaced finally! Now about the powerwire, I have browsed the threads but I am not sure what that is, what is a powerwire, does that go with the spark plugs or something???
