Re: Thinking of selling my 2006 WK

It's funny, my wife and I have this same discussion everytime some preventative maintenance work on the Jeep needs to be done!

The way that I look at it is, this one is paid off!. If I bought a new/slightly used similarly equipped vehicle I'd be looking at around $600 a month for a car payment...you can do alot of work with $600 a month to keep it going! And, those months that I don't have to do anything I keep $600 in my pocket.

I have over 150,000 miles, and I haven't had any major problems to date.

...though, I must admit...the new wk's are certainly a tempting reason to trade in!

Just sayin
Joe, what's up man? Long time, I hope all is well.

I know that's what I keep telling myself.. No car payments are awesome. I go through this every few months, but end up coming to my senses and keeping the Jeep.

I'm just not looking forward to the $1000+ 60k service. I'll most likely break it up over the next couple of months so it won't be such a lumpsum bill.

Very true, I'm looking at it the same way as well.. It's just tempting to want to go out and buy something new and hassle free.

Re: Thinking of selling my 2006 WK

A new car is without question the worst investment you can make, but if money is not an issue, go for it. The Tiguan will hands down be huge fun to drive over a WK, and mpg will be better. If money is an issue, and your WK is paid of, you could do the mainteneance and put some upgrades on it that will make it drive better, so you may like it again. The mods you say you have in fact only make the WK slower and ride and handle worse to be honest; those huge heavy wheels are not for a low power engine like the 3.7 as they are unsprung weight, which is worseneing your accelleration, braking, ride, mpg, etc..over the stock wheels. Put stockers on and you wil be shocked how much better it will accellerate alone.

ALOT of that $1000 service can be done with simple tools, a couple of wheel ramps and a Saturday or two.

Certainly the oil change, differentials, transfer case and PCV valve can be done to take a decent sized chunk out of that bill, with very little mechanical inclination!

Spark plugs and transmission fluid swap can take a little more work, and require a little more caution, but are also possible to do in a driveway.

I've wised up and actually decided to keep the Jeep after a lot of thought. I don't think the wheels/tire setup that I'm running now is too much heavier than the stock setup.. At most I'm thinking 40 lbs heavier, but I don't believe it's even half of that weight.

I hear ya, but my handyman abilities are pretty limited however. I'll be bringing the Jeep into the dealership in a few weeks to have the transfer case and axles serviced, which will be around $300. PCV valve, transmission fluid swap and spark plugs have already been changed, so I'm good on those for a while.

I'm going to have them top off all the fluids, check my trans fluid to make sure I'm not low, and check the belt for cracks. Once I get that out of the way I should hopefully be good for a while.

Thanks again for the feedback guys.. I'm glad I'm keeping my Jeep!

Re: Thinking of selling my 2006 WK

I've been getting the same itch lately especially with all the new models coming out I personally want something a little more fun to drive, on the road that is, than the jeep and something a little faster cause the 3.7 leaves a lot to be desired speed and power wise.

Personally I think the Tiguan is for girls no offense and vw is over priced although the new ones do look a bit cooler I would say check out the Mercedes Glk cooler looking and not insanely expensive for a merc

I kind of want the new mustang I think theyre cool looking and fast as hell and ford updated the interior to much better quality. Winter diving would suck though. Basically imm gonna wait another 2 years.

Forgot to mention I got an 06 wk with 73000 on it already feeling the pain of repairs last time I went broken rear tail light circuit board, right wheel bearing, and the differential appears to be on the way out

Re: Thinking of selling my 2006 WK

So, I finally ended up purchasing a new vehicle, but have held onto the Jeep for the time being.

I'm either thinking of holding onto it for use in the winter, sell it outright as is to a private party, or slowly start to strip down and sell all of the parts and then sell the vehicle in almost stock form to Carmax.

This is probably the best choice.

Congrats on the new ride. At some point most of us all move on.

Would be very interested in those stillen headlight covers and maybe some other khaki parts if you do decide to part it out.

Re: Thinking of selling my 2006 WK

Perks of doing most of the upkeep myself, keeps a lot of money in my pocket. Never have I had to take either of my Jeeps into a dealer. My dad and I do it all
