Thinking of selling my 2006 WK

Am I crazy for thinking about trading in my 2006 3.7L WK for a VW Tiguan?

I know this is probably the wrong forum to ask this, as I would most likely get the exact opposite responses from a VW forum. So please don't flame on me too badly.

Reasons for wanting to sell are:

-Coming up on 65,000 miles, and not looking forward to not only the upcoming expensive maintenance, as well as this is typically the time when things start falling apart and going wrong.

-I'm really just getting bored with my WK. I've had it for 5 years now, and have modded just about everything that I've wanted to, so I think I'm just itching to start a new project.

-For some reason I really just like the Tiguan. I just recently purchased a 2012 Passat for my wife, and really love VW's after owning it for the past several months. I want something in AWD, and a vehicle that is not only fun to drive, but both mod worthy and attractive.

Plus, I will have a good amount of goodies that I will be parting out. Off the top of my head.

-Black SRT Reps
- 20" American Racings Wheels (black w/ polished lip)
-Tinted Tails
-SRT Grill
-HID's
-SRT Roof Rails
-Commander Shift Nob
-Stillen Covers, etc.

Opinions are welcome.

Thanks,

Chris

I don't know man, your Jeep looks pretty sick. I'm not trying to be biased or anything but the VW Tiguan looks like a sissy or soccer mom vehicle lol. It doesn't say aggressive like your WK. You could keep your Jeep and take pride in all the mods you've done and be happy with that or you could be like most people and have to have "more, more, more".

I go back and fourth on this subject every month or so.. Keep my already modded to my liking vehicle vs. something new with less chances of the equipment deteriorating.

It's not about wanting more, it's mainly about wanting to spend less time in the shop due to equipment failure on an aging vehicle.

I'm fairly certain you have the Light Khaki.

If you trade it in, I may be interested in some of your exterior parts since I wouldn't have to paint them. PM me if you make the move.

Good Luck.
Light Khaki indeed.. I will keep you posted if I end up going that route.. I almost forgot I also have the mopar body kit that I may be interested in selling, but am not sure if I can remove the side body panels without damaging the clips. I know the front valence will come off with no problems.

Maybe we can work out a trade for your stock side panels.

Look who popped out of nowhere?

Wassup Chris?!

Hey man the Jeep is paid off and still running good and looking good, why would you want to jump into something with payments?

Just sayin
Joe, what's up man? Long time, I hope all is well.

I know that's what I keep telling myself.. No car payments are awesome. I go through this every few months, but end up coming to my senses and keeping the Jeep.

I'm just not looking forward to the $1000+ 60k service. I'll most likely break it up over the next couple of months so it won't be such a lumpsum bill.

It's funny, my wife and I have this same discussion everytime some preventative maintenance work on the Jeep needs to be done!

The way that I look at it is, this one is paid off!. If I bought a new/slightly used similarly equipped vehicle I'd be looking at around $600 a month for a car payment...you can do alot of work with $600 a month to keep it going! And, those months that I don't have to do anything I keep $600 in my pocket.

I have over 150,000 miles, and I haven't had any major problems to date.

...though, I must admit...the new wk's are certainly a tempting reason to trade in!
Very true, I'm looking at it the same way as well.. It's just tempting to want to go out and buy something new and hassle free.

A new car is without question the worst investment you can make, but if money is not an issue, go for it. The Tiguan will hands down be huge fun to drive over a WK, and mpg will be better. If money is an issue, and your WK is paid of, you could do the mainteneance and put some upgrades on it that will make it drive better, so you may like it again. The mods you say you have in fact only make the WK slower and ride and handle worse to be honest; those huge heavy wheels are not for a low power engine like the 3.7 as they are unsprung weight, which is worseneing your accelleration, braking, ride, mpg, etc..over the stock wheels. Put stockers on and you wil be shocked how much better it will accellerate alone.

I've wised up and actually decided to keep the Jeep after a lot of thought. I don't think the wheels/tire setup that I'm running now is too much heavier than the stock setup.. At most I'm thinking 40 lbs heavier, but I don't believe it's even half of that weight.

ALOT of that $1000 service can be done with simple tools, a couple of wheel ramps and a Saturday or two.

Certainly the oil change, differentials, transfer case and PCV valve can be done to take a decent sized chunk out of that bill, with very little mechanical inclination!

Spark plugs and transmission fluid swap can take a little more work, and require a little more caution, but are also possible to do in a driveway.
I hear ya, but my handyman abilities are pretty limited however. I'll be bringing the Jeep into the dealership in a few weeks to have the transfer case and axles serviced, which will be around $300. PCV valve, transmission fluid swap and spark plugs have already been changed, so I'm good on those for a while.

I'm going to have them top off all the fluids, check my trans fluid to make sure I'm not low, and check the belt for cracks. Once I get that out of the way I should hopefully be good for a while.

Thanks again for the feedback guys.. I'm glad I'm keeping my Jeep!

I've been getting the same itch lately especially with all the new models coming out I personally want something a little more fun to drive, on the road that is, than the jeep and something a little faster cause the 3.7 leaves a lot to be desired speed and power wise.

Personally I think the Tiguan is for girls no offense and vw is over priced although the new ones do look a bit cooler I would say check out the Mercedes Glk cooler looking and not insanely expensive for a merc

I kind of want the new mustang I think theyre cool looking and fast as hell and ford updated the interior to much better quality. Winter diving would suck though. Basically imm gonna wait another 2 years.

Forgot to mention I got an 06 wk with 73000 on it already feeling the pain of repairs last time I went broken rear tail light circuit board, right wheel bearing, and the differential appears to be on the way out

So, I finally ended up purchasing a new vehicle, but have held onto the Jeep for the time being.

I'm either thinking of holding onto it for use in the winter, sell it outright as is to a private party, or slowly start to strip down and sell all of the parts and then sell the vehicle in almost stock form to Carmax.

This is probably the best choice.

Congrats on the new ride. At some point most of us all move on.:wavey:

Just as a heads up, a very large garage sale will be going on if I do not sell the Jeep by mid-to-late August. Everything will be for sale, with the larger items only available for local pick-up.
