This what a leaky thermo looks like ?

I assume the water pump weep hole is underneath and I don't see any evidence of leaking there... The coolant appears to be collecting just behind and underneath the thermo (orange stain and wetness).

Wife said she saw the temp gauge rocket-up and then settle down. From reading posts here, looks like a shatty thermo. I know about the Jet 180 piece, that's lower than stock right ? I'm a firm believer in keeping the motor at proper op temp for mileage etc.

thx in adv.

what cap you running. lots get spray from the shitty quality of the OEM cp, at a minimum bend the tabs and tighten it uip, or buy a locking 18lbs.

I cant tell from the photo if IT ccould be the rad cap but be mindful.

Re: This what a leaky thermo looks like ?

thx ut nope, no evidence on or near the cap. all coolant pouring down at front of block, see it on the crossmember. trying to avoid doing the water pump if it's not fubar.

Re: This what a leaky thermo looks like ?

water pump usually has a weep hole on near the part that connects to the timimg cover. also the fan will have some wiggle if it real bad.

so its prolly the thermo......

Re: This what a leaky thermo looks like ?

One more thing fellas. How do you properly flush coolant ? On my GM LT1 cars I remove knock sensors in block to get the last bit out of the water jacket.

Re: This what a leaky thermo looks like ?

that was it, thermo gasket cooked and caked. btw, parts guy said thermo should be positioned a certain way on the Jeep Hemi, not so on the charger (hmmm), looks like the little bleeder poppet should be oriented up.
temp holds 1 tick below middle of gauge.
I still don't believe there is no way to drain coolant from block, but I'm too lazy to put my oe svc disk in my laptop. heh. I just blew a little compressed air into coolant passages, and followed up w 100% coolant. half and half in the reservoir. colour looks about right.
