Time to let it go

Now that I've taken delivery of it's replacement it's time to let my '06 WK have a new owner.

It's really been pretty trouble-free. I confess to not getting any of the recalls or TSBs done to it, mainly because I didn't have any of those issues.

So I'm debating, should I bother getting all that stuff done before I sell it?

I'm considering just taking it to Carmax.

Thoughts? Should I bother getting the stuff addressed first?

Some people, myself included, would see an untouched fdcm as a bonus to the purchase. Since the recalls and everything are done for free, let the next owner decide. They may want the recalls performed, maybe they don't. Me personally, I would prefer the loser feel of the ignition switch that I don't have to feel like I'm about to break the key off in the ignition to get the key out. And that whole fdcm Fiasco, who wants to deal with that?

yep, very specifically not free as the dealer will not get paid without approval and on 10yr old vehicle I cannot imagine approval on them...if Carmax asks about true recalls and will deduct then decide but there is no way they will ask about "TSB's"...

verbiage says:

"SERVICE BULLETINS ARE NOT A WARRANTY ITEM FOR VEHICLES OUT OF WARRANTY. It is important to note that "Preventive" service repairs will generally not be performed under warranty during the normal warranty period if a vehicle is not exhibiting the particular symptom or problem. TSB's are not recalls. If you ask your dealer to perform the modification outside of the warranty period, expect to pay for the labor and parts."

BTW, that's a very sharp blue, I can't wait to wrap/paint mine in B5 Blue someday...

Yeah, I'm apparently one of three on the east coast that has that color on this model. It's their 'Sapphire Blue' metalilic and it's every bit as bright as the picture presents. Ford and Hyundai (or Kia?) have something close in color but not as metallic. I've had many blue vehicles over the years but this is the first that's been that BRIGHT.

Shows dirt damned fast though. Not as bad a black, but close. Thankfully those black rims hide the brake dust. Which those huge discs and calipers apparently produce quite quickly. Every other owner has pointed out they liked the rims because they'd hide the dust. Well, ok then, me too!

I just shudder to think about the $350 per rotor that a brake job is gonna cost me... They're a huge improvement over the brakes on the Jeep, so it's money well spent.

Back to the WK, yeah, I don't think of it as being a decade old, but it is. I've got just under 90k on it, so there's plenty of life left in it.

I'm going to see what they'll offer me for it. It needs a few things, like UCA's and right LCA, but I have all those parts, just not the time/inclination to do them. If Carmax lowballs me then I'll look into other options. Not unless someone here wants to make an offer?

EXPECT to be low-balled. I was looking to trade my 05 WK for a 10 XK 2 years ago, the dealership was going to give me $1500 on trade. I keep it, feeling shocked, and never looked back at trying to trade it. I love my WK too much to give it away.

yeah, the dealers tend to go for low/mid/hi wholesale and any higher numbers are just reshuffling the new sale discount dollars to make it appear the trade is higher than it really is...those games will never stop....but he's talking Carmax and they are not the same from first hand reports I have seen...folks are getting solid offers and walking with full clear checks in like 30 minutes, really....this of course assumes you are selling a "desirable" yr/make/model/condition and his '06 needing work ain't really that and I don't know what the market thinks (thought 2 yrs ago) of XK's so dunno what would have happenend at Carmax but pretty confident much better than a dealer...a bit more of a specific market for those I know...it's also a regional thing.

Well, Carmax has made me an offer that seems a bit low. Had a state inspection done for it and, as expected, the UCAs need replacing. I've got all the parts with it but just never got around to it. Still drives great, just has some clank in the UCAs.

Anyone in the MD/DC/VA area interested? Otherwise it's off to Carmax.
