Tire Help.

Hello,I just recently pickup a 07 WK and happened to run across this forum.

Current size: 245/65/17

I went to Americas tire to look at some of my options, and the tire tech pointed out that to install any plus sizes I would need to get some offset wheels too. There seems to be plenty of room in the wheel well, but there is a suspension piece that hangs over the tire preventing larger sizes. What are my options?

Re: Tire Help.

I installed 255/70/17 Firestone Destination AT's on mine with no issues with rubbing or no other modifications. As far as I know, this is the largest size you can go and still have full turn, stroke and no suspension modifications.

Re: Tire Help.

Looks like somebody already cut the hex end off the stud... I'm guessing the other side is the same.

Yeah, I noticed that as well.

I have 275/65/R17 on Commander rims without any rubbing and it clears the bolt without cutting the hex head off. This is because the Commander rims have less offset. On the GC rims it wouldn't clear the suspension bolt.

They fit on the stock setup without any rubbing even at full lock but when tested offroading, front was no probs but there is major rubbing in the rear wells, the tires could rip out the guards. The only way I see this to be avoided is by installing 2" coil spacers to the rear (or a 2" suspension lift).

Is that on Grand Cherokee rims? Because those tires a quite large, to be exact 31.05" and did you have to trim the suspension bolt?

I have 275/65/17 on Commander rims and with their little less offset, they have cleared the bolt. They are exactly 31.07" and run good around town, as long as you're on level surface but not for off-road due to flexing of solid axles in the rear. Front's are good though but hardly any flex due to IFS.

The rears will cause "extreme" rubbing to the front and front/upper portion of the guards, that is, the section adjacent to the rear door. On the fuel tank side, it will hit the overflow hose in the tire well. Without a lift, they would rip out the guards and cause major damage if taken to moderate and hard tracks.

A 2" lift would eliminate this problem but a 2" suspension will be out of question for me right now. I'll go for a set of 2" coil spacers.

Commander rims look so much better on the Grand.

Check out the photos with the Commander rims and 275/65/R17 Maxxis tires.

Re: Tire Help.

My WK is lifted but the tires you see in the picture below will fit without a lift and without spacers. It's been done so don't call me a liar. Lol.

LOL, if they fit, they fit but doesn't mean the rear tires won't rub when 4 wheeling on some moderate or hard tracks. They would definitely rip out the rear guard panels if without any lift.

Re: Tire Help.

Yeah I know. Just trying to prove that larger tires will fit with no problem.
