Totaled the Jeep. Bent frame??

Hey all! So this weekend I totaled my baby... Thank God the passenger, nor myself were injured in any way what so ever.
Now I'm trying to add up all the damage, to later point it out to the insurance inspector.

It might be for all the crushed side panels. But to me it seems the frame got bent. Bare in mind this was a "fly off railing, nose dive right into ground/front flip" accident.
The thing is I don't know how to take exact measures to establish if it is bent or not.
I'll attach a picture and you tell me what you think. The wheels certainly don't align...

Re: Totaled the Jeep. Bent frame??

Most importantly, I'm glad every one is safe! Another great example as to how much protection the WK seems to provide.

Even if the frame is not bent (which it probably is), I can't see that being anything but a write-off. It's nearly a 7-year old vehicle that would have damage on every body panel and a slew of actual mechanical issues.

I highly doubt your insurance company is going to do anything more than write you a cheque (likely for less than you would want!).

Re: Totaled the Jeep. Bent frame??

I agree with the above too. I bought mine as a write off and was only 1 year old at the time. Damage was in one front corner and drivers door and floor.

Re: Totaled the Jeep. Bent frame??

Thanks for the input guys.
This however is Argentina. They only write it off if the repair cost is above 80% of the total vehicle value. Insurance companies per se down here are snakes. Wherefore I want to be able to calculate as much damage as possible. And straightening out the frame would be a considerable cost I imagine. So if I can add that to the rest, I think I will be able to relax :P

Re: Totaled the Jeep. Bent frame??

It's going to be tough to determine the frame is bent without really tearing into it with the appropriate specifications. I'm not even sure where to begin looking.

The way I would do it, is to get the car aligned. If they can align all four wheels properly, the frame is alright. If not, the frame is bent. Obviously, you would want to take it to a shop that you are paying for that alignment, not the one working on it.

Alternatively, you can take it to a collision repair center of your choosing and have them give it a look over.

These approaches all assume that the car is mobile enough to take to various places.

Re: Totaled the Jeep. Bent frame??

To determine if it is bent you really need to put it on a chassis jig.

Cheers,
Steve
