Tough, custom made, heim jointed, Tie Rods

I just wanted to let all fellow jeepers know of our just released heavy duty, custom made tie rods with Heim joint ends. These are really very strong, heavy arms made of solid steel, adjustable and use strong Heim joints on both ends. We have been testing them for a while and am now comfortable releasing them. Please take a look at them and let me know what do you think. The listing is currently on eBay and JeePerf.com. Your opinions and feedback are most welcome. Here are some pictures with them installed in a WK and wheel alignment results.

Judging from the photos the heim does not appear to clear the dust shield for the rotor. It has pushed the shield very close to the rotor.

I actually pushed the dust shield further away from the rotor and closer to the Heim joint.

You can see the small indentation in the shield to accommodate the original ball joint is way lower than the Heim.

Re: Tough, custom made, heim jointed, Tie Rods

Im not terribly mechanically knowledgable....first time I learned that was called a "Heim Joint"...cool.

I am curious, though, if that sort of joint requires or could benefit from servicing (ie serviceable grease fitting, etc)

Just trying to educate myself a little here and there.

You need to work on your photography skills, I will just take your word for it.

Here is some information for you.

Pirate4x4.Com - Extreme Four Wheel Drive

Here is the take away point.

Quote:
Lubrication – The “sealed vs greasable” debate is timeless and boils down to personal choice. Depending on the conditions of use and your preference, you may wish to use joints that can be periodically lubricated. Some joints are “self lubricating” meaning they use some sort of chemical-impregnated cup or liner that lubricates the bearing.

Sometimes these joints are also called Johnny joints or Rose joints. I picked the self lubricating ones but there are other types that are rebuildable and greasable.

Here is another picture that shows the joint, rotor and dust shield clearances.

Rose joint is a UK term, not likely to stumble across that around here. A Johnny Joint is completely different though.
