Tow a 4100lb boat with the 3.7L AWD WK

Hi all,

I have a 05 Grand Cherokee with thew trailer tow package. Says maximum tow capacity is 3500 lbs. I need to tow a 4100lb boat that my 3.9L V6 dodge van towed with no issues.

What are your thoughts on this. Any way to increase tow capacity or should I be fine?

Re: Tow a 4100lb boat with the 3.7L AWD WK

I think this may be a bit of a stretch, though hopefully someone that has towed with the 3.7 can chine in.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it (I assume the engineers have listed 3,500 lbs. for a reason), but I am sure others who have towed with the 3.7 can add more to the conversation than me!

If I were to do it, I would make sure I had a load-levelling hitch and trailer brakes at a bare minimum.

Another thing to keep in mind: You may void your insurance on both the boat and Jeep if you are towing outside of your weight class and were to get into an accident - even if it is not your fault.

I wouldn't worry that much about being an extra 600 pounds over weight. Just take it easy.
