@cmckenna - I have a 2011 liberty 3.7. First thing I did was put a hitch on it. They're very useful. Other than a utility trailer full of crap periodically, I hauled my buddy's 21 ft boat with no issues (2 hour trip). If I had to guess, I'd say the boat is somewhere between 2000 & 3000 lbs. my liberty is rated to tow 5000 lbs, so i assume the GC with that engine is similar. I bought one of those cargo carrier basket things too. I throw the lawn mower or anything else I don't want to dirty up the inside on it. It's handy..

Nah, not dumb.

OP = Original Poster. I was suggesting the bolt on hitch to the person who started this thread.

mine had the button/switch, but no harness (that I could find LOL) so i bought an aftermarket and wired it in and just tuck the plug between the bumper and bumper cover when I'm not using it. have had no problems yet. just make sure you keep the cover on the plug

actually, I think I got it on ebay. that was about 5 yrs ago, so i don't remember for sure. it was a harness kit that tapped into my tail lights. very easy install. most people will tell you to get the OEM. it's up to you. I was a cheap A$$ and only spent like $40

Changes how ur tranny shifts so when you are hauling / towing, u won't be kicking in and out of overdrive all the time causing your tranny to get hot

Re: Tow hitch receiver

I pieced together an OE hitch kit from the dealer and JustForJeeps for my 4.7L that didn't come with it. I wanted the factory look (bumper cutout). The cutout was a piece of cake...don't worry about perfect cuts because the bezel will hide zigs and zags (within reason).

I took my bumper cover off to do this, and needed to buy a plastic body rivet kit at Harbor Freight to reattach the rear wheel well linings. No big deal, planned ahead, but could surprise you.

As for the wiring, I bought the factory harness as well. It ran from the engine bay all the way back, and included a trailer brake lead that went into the cabin. I already had a tow/haul button on the dash and it worked prior to installation, but I seem to remember needing the dealer to hook up to the computer to activate the wiring kit. An aftermarket harness would certainly be easier if you don't care about the trailer brake.

I also had read that I needed a fan kit for transmission cooling. Once I received it however, I learned that I had a hydraulic fan on the 4.7 and this wasn't necessary. Read somewhere that I must have had the trailer tow "prep" kit. On the 3.7 I don't know if they did that. If you're hauling a lot of weight, you may want to get a secondary trans cooler.

Hope this helps!

Steve

Re: Tow hitch receiver

Hey everyone, i'm sort of a noob here.

Can anyone please direct me, where I can get, and exactly what I need to do add the OEM toe hitch look please?

Also, how to do the cutout?

Thanks
