Traction control

I just put a 2in lift and level kit on my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Went down a path in the woods this evening and coming back out it got slippery. When I turned off the traction control it didn't seem to do anything. I still heard it trying to stop the power from going to one wheel. Is there anything I can do to make this 4x4 better. My jeep has the 3.7 V6 if that makes a difference.
