Trans questions

Couple quick questions for you guys running the hemi engine GC's. What rpm do you run @60 or 65? Reason I am asking I noticed driving it to work at 62 the rpm is the same as a little over 70 if I run up to about 75 it seems to lock up the TC and the rpms drop, but will not do it unless I drive atleast 75. It will stay like that if I slow down (unless I hit a hill) and the rpms @65 are below 2k. Is this normal for these trans.

thanks
nick

btw: my GC is stock exept a CAI

Re: Trans questions

I have today actually. At about 60-65 I'm just under 2k RPMs. Hmm I can't seem to find out what's wrong. Have you checked your T-case Fluid? Any lights on the Dash? Do the Key Dance and tell us what code it brings up. If it doesn't bring up a Code you might have to take it to the Dealership or Advanced Auto Parts or Auto Zone because they have a StarScanner that could pull it Codes.

Re: Trans questions

No have not checked the fluid I should. I have only had the GC for a little over a month and figured all the fluids would be find from the Jeep dealership. It shifts fine and all and has always been around 2-2.2k @60-65 since I bought it and just thought it was normal, untill I drove it down the interstate this week and it acted like the TC locked up pass 75. I will check for codes and check the fluid in the morning, it has not flashed any lights though.

Seems normal to me. I see only 50-100 rpm difference between 65-75 mph. [Mine has K&N drop-in air filter element.]

Dealer Service Manager once told me that the xmission does not necessariliy lock up when MDS is active. I do see the RPM's change +/- 50 rpm when MDS kicks in-and-out, if that helps. I had always assumed that the xmission locks up after 45-50 mph, but it might not be accurate for the HEMI with 545RFE xmission.

Re: Trans questions

Well went out and checked the fluid and codes, all looked good. It may be normal it just seemed odd that I have to pass 75 for the rpms to drop. It may need to be serviced though I am at 53k and I dont think its been serviced. Thanks for the input all

Re: Trans questions

I'm at 121k on my HEMI. I'm doing a nice service to it hopefully in the next couple weeks.

My '08 owner's manual and '08 OEM WK Service Manual do not call for any specific xmission service until 102K miles, unless you are in "severe" service, then it's 60K miles for a fluid drain and both filters changed. Think all xmissions use ATF+4 now, per TSB at:
http://www.wkjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk_2101407.pdf

Don't let the dealer sell you a transmission "flush" or "backflush". Chrysler now recommends against it and sent a memo to their dealers to that effect.
