Yep, my TJ is just like that. Its a square plug and a 3/8" ratchet fits right in the fill plug. However, the WK is an actual 14mm plug, the ratchet will not work on that one.

Hahaha, ingenuity is a great thing! I actually did just that for the 10mm drain plug. I had to buy one, but i tossed an open ended wrench on there and was able to get it out. I had to order a 14mm allen wrench as I could not find one anywhere in the Cedar Valley area in Iowa. The diffs will be done another day.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm not an idiot around cars, but the first time is always the worst without the right tools or the tricks of the trade.

14mm Allen key at Ace Hardware, $10 (and made in USA). Sockets are too long for the available space unless you order the Snap-on close quarters version (3/8" drive) for ~$25.

There is one other trick: Buy a piece of 14mm hex stock and cut it to about 2". Use it in the end of a std. 14mm socket wrench as a "special tool".

Do the fill plug first on the front one, then open the drain.

Right you are, the first plug I always open is the fill plug. I've had enough stuff go wrong in the past to know that little trick!

Re: Transfer case and differential fluid change questions

Harbor Freight is the SHIT!! I just bought a bunch of impact sockets from there. Metric and SAE sets. About 10 in each for about $45.

Re: Transfer case and differential fluid change questions

2005 Grand Cherokee Limited....I can guarantee you a socket will not fit between the front diff and crossmember....it's too narrow. I had to buy an allen wrench but now I have it for mine in the future.

Re: Transfer case and differential fluid change questions

The rear diff uses an rtv sealant to put the diff cover on and I was wondering if I could buy a gasket anywhere for a wk 07 3.7 and use that instead of the sealant?

If I'm not mistaken is the pb plaster the same plaster which is used to take out nuts/studs which gets snapped or broken and half of it won't come out?
