I have the Tow Package on my Grand Cherokee. I do mostly city driving. Would a transmission cooler be a good investment? Is it needed with the tow package?
If you look on the top of the condenser you will see that the support bars for the fins are thicker and then they get thinner on down the condenser, the thicker area on top is the trans cooler.
So, did the units with a tow package have an auxiliary cooler, as well? Most vehicles with A/T have a cooler that is shared (but fluids are separated) with the engine radiator and *some will have an additional cooler that runs from the radiator (cooler) to the aux cooler, then back to the transmission. Most aftermarket coolers are setup this way, as well. I imagine the thermostat is in the transmission, so if you decide to run another one and if it has it's own thermostat, may want to disable it somehow (on the cooler, not the trans)
almost all vehicles that are Automatic have a trans cooler. you basically have to, and almost all auto makers integrate the trans/rad cooler into one big unit.
