Transmission CVI Relearn/Reflash

I spoke to Sharadon performance a few time about their transmission. One thing he mentioned was regardless of who does my transmission, to make sure i got the TCM/PCM re-flashed. Does anyone know more information on this? The website below discusses one way to do it, but it looks like it's pretty old info. I wonder if i need to have the dealership do it or if i can do it myself manually.

http://www.sktransparts.com/help.html

After reading through the WK manual, it sounds like just disconnecting the battery resets all learned transmission data, i wonder if this is enough.

Re: Transmission CVI Relearn/Reflash

yeah, i KNOW you can reset the PCM by disconnecting the battery and then stepping on the brake for 30 seconds or turn the lights on for 30.

what we are not sure of is whether or not that resets the TCM.

Re: Transmission CVI Relearn/Reflash

Well i called the dealership. He didnt go into much detail but he was excited to hear i was using the red eagle clutch packs He did say it needs to go through the learn process and that it is something they do at the dealer. said it's about $100. While's its there hopefully ill remember to have them turn on the auto tilt reverse mirrors and make sure i have the latest shift TSB program.

Re: Transmission CVI Relearn/Reflash

Are you just resetting the Trans adaptives? I reset the pcm/trans adaptives after every mod so it can relearn with the new stuff.

Re: Transmission CVI Relearn/Reflash

If you're just resetting the adaptives a battery disconnect/reconnect will do it. If you're going for the most current PCM/TCM flash files you'll either need to go to the dealer or purchase a Diablosport Predator. After loading the latest CALID's off their site (the DS will tell you if you need to do this), it will load them onto your PCM/TCM.
I just did this on mine. Yours may be different. I had the "AF" suffix PCM file and it upgraded it to the latest "AJ" file. The TCM was "AE" and it upgraded to "AG", both are the most current available. These new files incorporate most of the current outstanding TSB's for your particular year/model. Taking it to the dealer would cost $100 plus, so you're essentially getting the DS for a significant discount. Plus, anytime there is an upgrade you can upload it. I think on your "big" motor you'll probably end up getting a custom dyno tune done anyway. The DS folks have approved vendors that can do this. Be sure to save the tune files to disk though, as if you lose it somehow, you get to pay to have it done again.

Re: Transmission CVI Relearn/Reflash

Thanks jeepgcoman, ill def save it to my pc. I asked the shop and they said it would definitely be a custom tune. They have a guy flying in from Florida and are renting out a shop that has an AWD dyno for the day to write custom tunes, not just mine but several of them. I may just wait it out then and use the diablo? From what ive read resetting the CVI just requires normal operating temps and manually downshifting from 2nd to 1st and from 3rd to first. I got my box'o'parts in today. Taking them to the tranny shop first thing in the morning. Aside from being able to exceed 35mph safely, im excited to see how/if the shifts are improved.

I believe Denny said the system learns how much fluid it takes to engage the gears and with new clutches the amount should be less, so without a relearn it will over push the fluid? Something along those lines

I have my Auto Tilt Mirrors on, I think it's taking it's toll on my mirrors though. They are not going back to the exact location of after they tilt back up. They get close but not exactly prior to backing up.

Re: Transmission CVI Relearn/Reflash

555, another thing you might want to consider getting for your setup is a DashHawk:
http://www.dashhawk.com/ That way you can keep track of almost everything dealing with engine/transmission management. I've got one on both my Hemi Magnum and also on the GCO. Well worth it, IMO.
