I have a 2005 Grand Cherokee with the HEMI. Lately it's been clunking into gear when I first start it up. I've changed the fluid and both filters so I know it's not that. Any other ideas on what it could be? Low fluid? It shifts fine otherwise...just the intitial start-up clunk into gear. Thanks!
I have the same issue and when I posed this question I was told to check the front diff bushing/ isolators. There are 2. They look like hockey pucks. Also check the mount. make sure the rubber is in good shape. Mine are cracked like crazy so it'll get done hopefully next week.
I ended up adding 2 quarts to it. You are supposed to run it with the trans in neutral is what it says on the dipstick. Took it out for a drive and WOW what a difference. No clunk putting in Drive or Reverse and it shifts like butter. Thanks to everyone who helped!
I go to get the Jeep out of the garage this AM and it clunks into Drive!!! Dealer states it may need a "quick learn" procedure done on it. Anyone heard of this and know the cost or what's involved?
If it's a 3.7 the dipstick states to not be removed unless by dealer. I believe they are sealed for life but I'm sure if you wanted you could change out the fluid.
