trouble separating Ball Joint plus a vid of play - please help -

OK, I'm sore and pissed off. Spent the better part of the day pounding on the bolt holding the lower clevis.

Anyway, I have that busted Eibach front lowering spring I announced in my first thread.
Busted Eibach Spring - wtf !?!?
The ****ers finally sent it along. 2 weeks later :/

So it seems there is not enough spring pressure to release the upper BJ. Perhaps cause it's the 1-1/4 drop combined with a broken coil. I rapped and rapped on the flat of the spindle, no joy. What's next ? Pickle fork ??

Here's something I'm also concerned about. I'll call Eibach tomorrow but...

Look at the play in the upper BJ. I used a channel lock to squeeze it while it was jacked. These are their adjustable units.

This is more than 1/4", wtf ?!?!?

Edit: note Eibach adjustable BJ # 5.23410K

thx rob. yeah, got the eibach setup from kolak when they first came out. And thx for the tierod separator pic, I was thinking the same thing. Just got sidetracked by the play in the BJ. I think it's ok, have seen cutaway diagrams of upper BJs with a spring backing em up.

thats a stress break in that coil to go along with a bad mixture of metal. probably had a little too much carbon or magnesium

Re: trouble separating BJ plus a vid of play - please help -

No corrosion imo. Only been to Canada two seasons with this setup. Suspension's been making noise for a good while, thought it was squeaky bushings, just got around to finding out why.

Eibach had no response to the detailed pic I sent. Most of the wrangling was getting my original invoice into them, the ****ers.

I'm betting this shit is made in China, like everything else these days.

edit: yep scott, intergranular most likely. Probably mixed-in too much melamine.

Re: trouble separating BJ plus a vid of play - please help -

they used less melamine since they were busy using TOO much of it in the baby formula and milk.

actually, i just bought eibach for a friends magnum and H&R for me.......shox.com

anyway, that guy, shox.com, told me eibach is no longer based in german ythat the owner moved most operations and distribution here. but prolly correct on where they are MADE....

Re: trouble separating Ball Joint plus a vid of play - please help -

Just got finished wrestling with the coil-over, omg. I have the battle scars to prove it. Pics coming later, I have to apply neosporin now, lol.

One thing I had to mention, there is no darn way you're gonna get the shock out without popping the upper balljoint. I read someone did it over on the srt8 forum, and I even messed myself up trying that routine, no way in hell. Just too easy to pop the BJ and be done with it.

BIG QUESTION HERE: That upper balljoint moves around like it is worn to shit. I'm really questioning it, because, ya know, tie rod ends and such are so much stiffer. You gotta really push on a new one to get it to move. Like the Moog stuff, good n sturdy.

Now I beg you all, watch the vid. Is that play normal ??? 1/4"+ axial play, no detectable radial play.

Re: trouble separating Ball Joint plus a vid of play - please help -

Bizzaro, right ?

The MOOG Part # K80604 is only $50 from rock auto. The adjustable Raybestos is $92. Hmmmm.
I heard tell that the eibach -1.5" doesn't necessarily need the adjustable upper balljoint. Combined with the gas bilsteins I don't think I would need so much adjustment...... wtfk ?

Re: trouble separating Ball Joint plus a vid of play - please help -

you dont need the adjustables. most are able to get an alignment without it.
