I just lost the key to my car and am now forced to use spare that i have. It had been dropped in water so the electronic part does not work anymore but the actual key does of course. My problem is that i have to manually lock and unlock my doors now, but everytime i unlock the driver door manually and open it, the alarm goes off. I dont know how to shut it off so i have to start up the car to turn it off now. This gets pretty annoying and was wondering what i am doing wrong to set off the alarm?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong to set off the alarm. Just the way that it is designed. From my understanding, the alarm is armed when the doors are locked with the FOB or through using the power locks. In contrast, it is unarmed only through the FOB or the ignition module. This is to ensure that the alarm is set off if someone punches your door locks, or uses a slim jim. You need a properly coded key in all circumstances to disarm the system.

If you were to manually lock and unlock the doors, I don't think the alarm arms (therefore wouldn't go off when you return and open the door with just the key).
