Hey guys, what oil have you replaced your transfer case oil with? I have the quadra drive II. It says to use Mopar oil only, but since I have Moble 1 in everything else I thought I could use something else in the t-case.

Personally, I only use the Mopar synthetic axle oil as no one has ever proven to me that another brand is "better" in any way, shape or form. I don't buy any of the advertising hype that some companies claim and promote. With technology today I don't think that any one major brand product is all that superior or advantageous over another. There are no doubt some great syn oils out there, I just feel most comfortable with what the engineers who designed my vehicle recommend. I have NEVER had an issue following that path.

Just under 2 bottles/quarts (spec'd at 1.9) for the NV146 or NV245.

The NV140 (QT1) only takes about 2/3rd quart (ATF).

The tcase make take less than the amount spec'd. For SRT owners it is important that the fill level be left about 1" down from the fill hole.

i changed mine and used mobil 1 75w-140, i have heard people swear by and only use mopar products in what i read before i changed it, and i have heard people say it doesnt matter as long as you use the right viscosity. I went ahead and used mobil1, so far i havent had any problems. This is just what i have done, im not suggesting one over the other

I did the same used mobil 1 ... it doesn't really matter except if you wanna use something like royal purple but generic brands like mobil, castrol or even mopar do the same chit ... it's all about marketing and chrysler trying to make their customers use their own products ...

have u ever read the owners manual where it only states you should mopar products even in detailing your car ???

point proven lol

If you use a brand name synthetic of the same viscosity required in the owners manual you will have no problems. If you read the owners manual it says the weight of the oil required and that it meets there certain specs. API... etc. Which the brand names like Mobile 1 and Royal Purple do. They "recommend" Mopar because they are getting a piece of the money spent on the Mopar products if you buy them. I go with whats on sale at the auto stores, like Mobile 1 5 quarts of synthetic oil and a Mobile 1 filter is always on sale for $29.99 near me, but now since thats all I have used in the past year I will not change oils.

I pasted this on another thread, but its a good read on oil. Gave me a better understanding of the different weights and brands.

I'm late in on this one, The dealer "special fluid" has a Mobilfluid424 spec on it. You can research that and find some fluids that cross over including Amsoil's ATH hydraulic fluid. I run it in my 247 QDII & sell lots of it to jeepers for that application.

Also on the gear oil issue I have a White Paper showing some test results of different fluid brands that some of you may find a good read. LINK HERE. It gives the ASTM test procedure and the result on 14 gear oils.
