Wheel spacers torque specs?

Myself and a friend are installing my spacers today, I have a snap on torque wrench and red loctite, but what should the spacers be torqued to? And the wheels? Is there anything else I should make sure to do when installing them?

Re: Wheel spacers torque specs?

I usually just wrench on wheel spacers with an impact...so figure thats probably 300-400 ft/lbs. This is overkill of course but I'd put at least 100 ft/lbs on them

Re: Wheel spacers torque specs?

What brand spacers are they? Spidertrax, for example, specifically says to torque them at 80-90 ft/lbs. When I put mine on I set both the spacers and wheel to 95 ft/lbs. That way I didn't have to reset the torque wrench over and over. Don't forget to recheck the torque on those spacers after putting 50-100 miles on them. It's a good idea to check them periodically after that, as well.
If you use an impact gun/wrench, then use the lowest torque setting then finish with a torque wrench. Using full torque with an impact at 300-400ft/lbs is just asking to bust a lug post or damage the spacer - the good ones are heavy duty machined aluminum - but they are ALUMINUM.

Re: Wheel spacers torque specs?

I have my Spidetrax spacers and OEM wheels torqued to 85lbs. I re-check them everytime I have a wheel off, just in case. Clean those mating surfaces too. I took a wire wheel on a die grinder and cleaned to inside of the wheels and the disks.

Re: Wheel spacers torque specs?

I would say red loctite would be overkill, considering if you need to do the brakes the spacers will need to come off.

obviously 500 degrees is not the end of the world and if it helps you sleep better at night so be it but I feel red is more of a "I dont ever need you to come out and expect you to stay there" thread locker.

If your going to use loctite I would just use blue and call it good.. personally of course.

While I would agree blue is sufficient - the spidertrax I bought came with red. Don't know if there's a reason for that - just sayin'.

Re: Wheel spacers torque specs?

spidertrax obviously doesnt want to any wrongful death suits to pay out... if its what you have go for it but enjoy breakin loose 20 lugs that dont want to come off at some point or another.

^^^ Well, let's just say I don't look forward to replacing my rotors when that bridge has to be crossed. Hopefully that bridge is waaay down the road.
