Re: Whine/Noise While Driving!

^Speaking of cats, in the garage there was a problem with stray cats crawling up under the vehicle to stay warm. I was always scared of having splattered cat on my Jeep. LOL

Well if they shorted you on fluids they didn't short your bill! You were charged for 6 qts gear oil and 3 qts of transfer case fluid. It takes 4 qts gear oil (plus additive) 2 qts tc fluid. $47.05 overcharge. Typical stealership ripoff...

Re: Whine/Noise While Driving!

Yeah dude they ripped you off on the fluids - Scotty is correct.

As far as the whine - I would check the fluid levels in the diffs first. On the rear - pop off the filler cap and fluid should slowly drip out (the rear diff should be filled to the hole).

On the front diff - remove the fill plug and the same should occer (slow drip - should be filled to the fill hole).

If the fluids are to spec there, I'd check the TC fluid level. If that is fine - I'd question if they used the correct weight fluid in the diffs. The part number for the diff fluid they used is 75W-140 fluid though (which is correct).

Re: Whine/Noise While Driving!

Hey guys, I've got a similar whine that I just noticed yesterday after getting it back from the dealer. I only hear the whine on the highway at 75-80 mph, when I let off the gas the whine goes away. I haven't driven the Jeep on the highway much since i bought the Jeep (05 5.7L QD2) two weeks ago, and when I took it on the test drive I was only able to sprint up to 80 mph but couldn't cruise at that speed because of traffic.

The dealer didn't actually do any repairs they were just doing a general health inspection of the Jeep for me. They checked the diff fluids and said the rear was very dark, but they didn't change anything or top it off. i was planning on getting the fluid changed out next week anyways, so I hope that fixes it. Any thoughts?

Re: Whine/Noise While Driving!

a while back 'red rocker' had a post about his front diff. i think he went thru like 3 of them due to just not enough fluid put in. he is lifted so it messes with angles and such so maybe its not the same IDK. but check his thread.

Don't think they "ripped you off". Most places charge for all or any part of a container that they open for each service operation (you had 3 in this case). Seems unreasonable, but I'll bet it's their shop policy.
Surprised you weren't offered the part-filled containers of differntial lube and transfer case oil since they can be closed for transport home.

I'd go back and question it.....
