Whining Sound Normal?

I have an 06 Grand Limited 5.7L Hemi. I recently notice a whining sound when i press the accelerator. i dont remember the sound when i bought it but i dont drive it much. what could the whining sound be from. Again, it only happens when i press the accelerator no matter what speed.

Re: Whining Sound Normal?

I have a 06 4.7 it does that whining sound too. I don't know what it is.
It kinda sounds like it's got a supercharger in it or something. I wish it did but it don't. If anybody can chime in HELPS US OUT.

Re: Whining Sound Normal?

could be the P/S pump. Mine whines a bit...nothing crazy. More so when it's colder out.

I've seen a TSB out there that states to change the P/S reservoir and the whine goes away.

Here's the link....

Draw back is the reservoir is around $100 MSRP at the dealer...and the dealer seems to be the only place to get the part. The pump is also around $100 but doesn't need to be replaced under this TSB. Although if its your pump thats making the noises...it could need replaced. It does NOT come with the reservoir.

Just during acceleration. I can put it in park & step on the gas pedel & you can hear it a little. but more when i got it drive & give it acceleration. seems like i just started hearing it since i've put my venom hood on. guess cause the hoods all opened up more there four i would hear it better. don't seem to be affecting the performance or anything. just whining.

Mine does it on cold or hot days. makes know diff.
I know i need a fan clutch. could that maybe be the problem. My fan clutch is real loose but it hasn't started overheating yet. going to change it asap.

Re: Whining Sound Normal?

That TSB states it does it when its cold.....i dont want to replace the P/S resevoir if it will not resolve the problem....any other ideas?

Mine does the whining when its cold like stated in the TSB, I can live with that...it aggravates me when im accelerating and hearing a whining instead of an exhaust roar!!!!

It could still be something with the P/S pump...but that's hard to tell. Fords are notorious for their power steering whine...you ever hear one? Is that what yours sounds like?
